Job Description

SCHEELS is a premier sporting goods retailer recognized across the United States for its extensive selection of world-class sports brands and outstanding customer service. Established as a leader in the sporting goods industry, SCHEELS is driven by a mission to create the best retail experience in the country while offering special attractions that enhance the shopping environment. With a focus on quality products related to outdoor activities, firearms, sports, fitness, and leisure, SCHEELS operates stores that serve as community hubs for sports enthusiasts and casual shoppers alike. The company’s dedication to providing expert advice and personalized service sets it apart in a competitive marketplace, making it a favored destination for customers seeking equipment, apparel, and accessories for a wide variety of sports and outdoor pursuits.

The role of a Firearms and Cashier Associate at SCHEELS is designed for individuals who have a passion for the outdoors, a keen interest in firearms, and a strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. This position offers a rewarding career opportunity through comprehensive business and product training, enabling associates to become knowledgeable experts in their roles. Associates at SCHEELS receive extensive mentorship and professional development throughout their career trajectory, ensuring continuous growth and skill enhancement.

Part-time schedule flexibility is required, with shifts typically scheduled Monday through Friday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and weekends from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. The average weekly hours are about 20, and associates must be available to work at least every other weekend, including holidays. The starting wage for this role is $16.00 per hour, reflecting competitive compensation for part-time associates. Importantly, all associates who process firearms must be over 18 years old.

In this position, associates are responsible for accurate and efficient processing of customer transactions, including cash, checks, and credit payments, as well as balancing the cash drawer at the beginning and end of shifts. Firearm-related duties entail assisting with firearm background checks, processing NICS transactions, and ensuring that all paperwork, including form 4473 and licensing documentation, is completed accurately and thoroughly. The role requires associates to maintain an orderly workspace, participate in gun room housekeeping, and handle physical tasks such as carrying gun boxes up and down stairs.

Successful candidates will demonstrate multitasking, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Publisher, Excel, and Google Docs. They should be able to perform basic mathematical calculations related to discounts, commissions, proportions, and percentages, and communicate effectively with customers and team members. Associates are expected to uphold the company’s culture by arriving early, showing respect, working efficiently, and supporting their teammates without seeking recognition.

The Firearms and Cashier Associate role at SCHEELS is not only about completing transactions but also about delivering a memorable and welcoming customer experience. Associates promote the SCHEELS Visa Rewards card and explain its benefits clearly to customers, contributing to the store’s overall success. This role offers the chance to combine a love for sports and the outdoors with meaningful career development in a dynamic retail environment. SCHEELS’ commitment to equal opportunity employment ensures a diverse and inclusive workplace, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds and providing reasonable accommodations when necessary.
