Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading specialty retailer serving the creative needs of artists and crafters across North America through its over 1,300 stores in 49 states and Canada, as well as its online platforms Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels offers an extensive variety of arts and crafts supplies, custom framing, home décor, and seasonal items. As a prominent destination for creativity and celebration, Michaels fosters an inclusive and supportive work environment where the joy of creativity is at the heart of all activities. The company is committed to diversity, equity, and accessibility, ensuring all team members and customers experience a welcoming atmosphere to create, innovate, and excel together. Michaels is also known for offering robust benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee discounts, which demonstrate the company’s focus on employee wellbeing.
The role of Event Coordinator at the Michaels store in Naperville, Illinois, is designed to provide a memorable and seamless event experience within the store environment. This is a dynamic position emphasizing planning, coordination, and facilitation of multiple events simultaneously, including children’s birthday parties and various craft classes. The Event Coordinator acts as the primary point of contact for clients, where they engage guests of all ages—from young children to older adults—to create an atmosphere brimming with fun, creativity, and customer engagement. Responsibilities include crafting party experiences that delight customers by performing activities such as face painting, leading craft project instructions, managing party add-ons, and ensuring all events adhere to company standards.
Apart from event management, the role also involves actively supporting store operations to maintain brand and service excellence. This includes assisting customers in their shopping journeys, ensuring efficient checkout experiences, completing merchandise duties such as stocking and planogram organization, and participating in inventory control processes like unloading deliveries and store recovery. The Event Coordinator supports promotional activities by enrolling customers in rewards programs and credit cards and helping educate customers on feedback surveys. The ability to work under pressure, communicate effectively, and problem-solve creatively is essential for meeting customer needs and adjusting event plans based on feedback in real-time.
This position requires a proactive approach to maintaining cleanliness and safety standards before, during, and after each event. The Event Coordinator must also handle administrative duties like answering emails, coordinating with internal teams, and maintaining detailed records related to all event planning activities. Flexibility in work schedule is critical, as this position involves working nights, weekends, and early mornings in a retail environment that includes some physical requirements such as standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and navigating ladders for stock access. With a base pay range of $15.00-$17.70 per hour, Michaels offers a vibrant workplace where employees are supported through continuous opportunities for personal and professional development, inclusive leadership, and a strong company purpose that values creativity and joy.
