The role of Barback at Noun Hotel is integral to maintaining the high standards of service the establishment is known for. Situated within the Food and Beverage department, the Barback works closely with the Bartender and reports directly to the Restaurant Manager. This is a non-exempt position that is essential in supporting the smooth operation of the bar area. The Barback is the Bartender’s right hand, responsible for anticipating the needs of both the service team and guests. A Barback at Noun Hotel must be highly attentive to the pace and flow of service, ensuring that everything is set up, maintained, and cleaned according to company standards, safety guidelines, and sanitation policies.

Working as a Barback requires constant communication with team members and a sharp eye for detail. The duties involve maintaining stock levels and cleanliness, resetting and preparing bar areas, and responding promptly to guest concerns. Job Requirements

  • Ability to walk and stand throughout an eight-hour shift
  • Ability to lift, balance and carry large, oval dining room service trays
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and move up to 40lbs
  • Ability to think and communicate clearly in high pressure situations
  • Ability to move quickly and gracefully throughout the dining room
  • Maintains an acceptable appearance and dresses according to uniform standards
  • Ability to maintain excellent attendance and punctuality

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in a barback or related hospitality role is an asset
  • Knowledge of basic sanitation and safety standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, co-workers and supervisors
  • Ability to absorb large amounts of information quickly including service procedures, menus and floor plan
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality
  • Knowledgeable of computer operations and ordering procedures
  • Understanding of proper handling of food and beverage items

Job Duties

  • Assists bartenders, servers and hosts in properly serving food and beverages when requested
  • At the appropriate time, clears, cleans and resets bar in keeping with company and proper sanitation standards to ensure they are ready for the next guest
  • Responsible for crumbing tables, as directed by the server
  • Transports dirty tableware from the dining room to the dish drop area and sorts accordingly
  • Maintains stock and cleanliness of bar for all meal periods with necessary equipment
  • Wipes down bar and chairs
  • Moves tables and chairs and cleans floors as necessary
  • Maintains an organized and fully stocked bar within each shift
  • Ensures bar is stocked and visually appealing
  • Responds immediately and graciously to guest service issues and reports the situation to the appropriate server or manager on duty
  • Maintains an acceptable appearance for station and surrounding area
  • Responsible for special cleaning projects such as dusting, polishing and scrubbing walls
  • Maintains communication and teamwork with all co-workers and supervisors
  • Conducts oneself in a professional manner with the awareness that all actions and communications are within guest view
