Job Description
Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is a pioneer in boutique hospitality founded in 1981 with a distinctive San Francisco-born entrepreneurial spirit. The company was established by Bill Kimpton to challenge the impersonal and generic standards of hospitality and create spaces where heartfelt, human connections flourish. Kimpton has become synonymous with an environment where guests and employees alike feel a genuine sense of belonging, creativity, and empowerment. The culture is lively, quirky, and irreverent, thriving on diversity and self-leadership which encourages everyone to be their authentic selves at work. This unique and exciting approach to hospitality has allowed Kimpton to create memorable and personal guest experiences that stand out in the industry. They focus not just on service, but on meaningful connections that improve lives in numerous ways—from coworkers and guests to owners and communities. Every member of the team is encouraged to contribute uniquely, fostering an environment that motivates personal as well as professional growth, while delivering exceptional hospitality.
The role of Barback at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is an essential supportive position within the bar and restaurant team. This role demands assisting bartenders by maintaining cleanliness, managing stock and equipment, and ensuring smooth operations behind the bar. Barbacks often serve food and beverages to guests and service staff when necessary, always facilitating teamwork and outstanding service. The position requires active advocacy for the bar and restaurant, driven by passion for creating incredibly personal and positive experiences for guests that encourage repeat visits. Barbacks are involved in a variety of tasks including greeting guests, checking service stations and tables for cleanliness and proper setup, assisting dining services, performing sidework, and managing inventory such as stocking beverages and changing beer kegs. This role also requires flexibility as the Kimpton team members often take on multiple responsibilities beyond job descriptions to support overall operations.
Candidates should be dedicated hospitality professionals with a passion for service and the ability to juggle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment. Experience in a similar or supportive role is preferred, along with food handler and alcohol awareness certifications where applicable. Proficiency with restaurant point-of-sale systems, along with inventory and invoicing software, is considered a plus. The position typically requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the busy and vibrant nature of hospitality. This role provides an opportunity to be part of a culture that embraces diversity in all forms, values each individual's unique contributions, and fosters an inclusive workplace that reflects the broad spectrum of guests served. Kimpton is committed to equal employment opportunities and encourages all employees to celebrate differences including race, ethnicity, age, religion, gender identity, and more. This is a position perfectly suited for those who are hardworking, dedicated, and passionate about making a difference through hospitality, eager to learn, grow, and provide outstanding experiences every day.
