Job Description
Michaels Companies Inc., established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, is a leading retail arts and crafts store operating over 1,300 locations across the United States, Canada, and online marketplaces. Michaels stands out as a top destination for crafting, creativity, and celebration supplies, serving a diverse customer base that ranges from hobbyists to professional artists. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels is well known for its commitment to providing high-quality products, expert crafting advice, and engaging customer experiences across all its stores. As a retail environment, Michaels fosters a culture grounded in creativity, inclusivity, and community, where employees are empowered to inspire customers to express themselves creatively.
Currently, Michaels is seeking a part-time Store Event Coordinator for its Oglethorpe, GA location. This role plays a vital part in creating an enjoyable and memorable shopping experience by coordinating and facilitating engaging events such as children's birthday parties, craft classes, and other in-store activities. The primary objective of the Event Coordinator is to plan, organize, and execute multiple events simultaneously while maintaining a fun and stress-free environment for guests of all ages—ranging from young children to seniors. This individual acts as an ambassador who not only delivers exceptional customer service by assisting shoppers in finding and purchasing products but also ensures the smooth operation of events and store functions.
The responsibilities include demonstrating craft projects, face painting, preparing party add-ons like goody bags and balloons, coordinating communication with clients and store teams, and handling administrative duties such as emails and phone calls related to event planning. The role requires adjusting plans based on feedback and guaranteeing client satisfaction. Besides event management, the coordinator supports the whole store team in delivering a fast and friendly checkout experience, engaging customers with loyalty programs, participating in inventory processes such as truck unloading and stocking, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards.
The ideal candidate is energetic and enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with children and organizing children's events. Strong written and verbal communication capabilities are essential, along with good organizational and creative problem-solving skills. This position demands standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, lifting heavy boxes, and some physical tasks like bending and stretching. Working hours will include nights, weekends, and early mornings, aligning with store needs.
Michaels prides itself on its inclusive workplace culture and offers a comprehensive benefits package that supports the well-being of employees and their families. Benefits include access to a 401(k) plan with employer matching, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition and adoption assistance, telemedicine services, flexible spending accounts, and various insurance options. Team members also enjoy employee discounts and partner discount programs. Michaels is committed to equal employment opportunities and provides reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to ensure full participation in employment.
