Among its many offerings, the Parks and Recreation Department oversees a variety of specialized positions focused on enhancing the recreational experience through diverse programs and well-maintained facilities. The department supports temporary employment opportunities designed to bring in skilled personnel who are passionate about recreation and community service. These temporary roles provide meaningful work experiences that contribute to the city’s mission of promoting healthy lifestyles and community involvement.
This listing is for a series of temporary positions within the Parks and Recreation Department at the Recreation Center and related facilities. Positions available include Archery Range Coordinator, Building Supervisor I, Climbing Wall Coordinator, Fitness/Wellness Instructor, Garden Supervisor, Greenmead Tour Coordinator, Lead Swim Instructor, Pool Supervisor, and Special Events Coordinator. Candidates must be at least 16 years old, with specific age requirements varying by position, and possess physical capabilities such as lifting a minimum of 35 pounds. Certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and appropriate sport or activity-specific qualifications are often required or preferred.
Focusing on individual positions, the Archery Range Coordinator is responsible for supervising and scheduling all archery staff, maintaining archery equipment and range, and supporting programming with a requisite Level 2 USA Archery Instructor certification. The Building Supervisor I oversees facility operations, enforces policies, supervises part-time staff, and must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications shortly after employment. The Climbing Wall Coordinator manages climbing wall programming, safety procedures, staff scheduling, and route setting. Fitness/Wellness Instructors plan and conduct specialty classes, requiring a strong background in exercise physiology and wellness, along with certification or enrollment in accredited programs. The Garden Supervisor manages gardening activities at Greenmead Historical Park, ensuring adherence to gardening standards and providing assistance as needed.
