Job Description

The City of Sacramento's Department of Public Works, Parking Services Division, invites qualified applicants to join their team as a part-time Parking Lot Attendant for city-owned garages. The city is known for its commitment to providing excellent municipal services and maintaining safe, accessible public spaces for its residents and visitors. The Parking Services Division plays a crucial role in managing parking facilities that contribute to the smooth operation and convenience of the urban environment in Sacramento. With an emphasis on quality customer service and operational efficiency, the division supports the city's goals of enhancing mobility and accessibility throughout Sacramento.

As a part-time Parking Lot Attendant, the successful candidate will be an integral part of the city's parking management team, responsible for directing vehicles to available parking spaces and managing various cashiering duties related to parking fees within municipal parking garages. This role entails a vital customer-facing position where providing courteous and professional service to the public is essential. The position requires working flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and evening shifts, sometimes in adverse weather conditions, underscoring the role's demands for reliability and dedication.

Candidates can expect to be involved in multiple operational tasks such as operating automatic revenue control equipment, issuing validation tickets, maintaining exit stations, and ensuring that parking lot equipment remains in good working order. Additionally, the Parking Lot Attendant will assist the public by providing information and directions within the city, identifying and reporting hazards in the parking facilities, and handling daily financial reconciliations, which calls for strong attention to detail and integrity. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in dynamic environments, engaging with the public, and contributing to community services.

The role is supported by a structured supervision system where general supervision is provided by a Parking Lot Supervisor, with indirect oversight potentially from a Senior Parking Lot Attendant. New hires in this classification may also be eligible for substantial recruitment and retention bonuses totaling up to $5,000 during the first year of employment, demonstrating the city’s investment in attracting and retaining qualified talent.

Applicants must be prepared to complete a thorough application process including submission of detailed employment history and successfully passing a Training and Experience examination designed to evaluate relevant skills and qualifications. The City of Sacramento prioritizes communication with applicants through email and encourages candidates to regularly check their inbox and spam folders for updates throughout the recruitment process. This ensures timely and efficient communication from application submission through potential hiring.

The Parking Lot Attendant position offers a meaningful service role within a respected municipal department, perfect for candidates with prior cashiering and customer service experience who wish to contribute to their community's operational excellence. With scheduled cut-off application dates extending into late 2026, interested individuals have ample opportunity to apply and join a team committed to quality public service and safety.
