Job Description
The Portland Parking Division is a key part of the City of Portland, Maine, responsible for managing and operating parking facilities, including parking garages that serve residents, commuters, and visitors. The division plays a crucial role in facilitating smooth traffic flow and providing essential parking services, especially during high-demand events. With a strong focus on customer service and operational efficiency, the Portland Parking Division continually seeks dedicated individuals to join their team to help maintain an organized and user-friendly parking environment. As part of the city government, the division not only offers stable employment but also contributes to the community by supporting local events, businesses, and everyday transportation needs.
The role of Parking Garage Cashier - On Call is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of the parking operations during major events, such as those at the Cross Insurance Arena. This position is unique in that it involves working on a flexible, on-call basis, allowing employees to support event parking sales as needed. With a pay rate of $18.00 per hour, this part-time, temporary, and seasonal role demands individuals who are flexible with their availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Cashiers in this role will handle financial transactions, manage cash drawers, and assist with the overall flow of traffic and safety within the parking garage.
Cashiers will also perform security walkthroughs and handle minor maintenance tasks such as trash pickup, creating a clean and secure environment for patrons. Successful candidates will be trained to operate cashier booths efficiently and provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced, sometimes physically demanding environment that requires working in a tollbooth under varying weather conditions. This position is ideal for those who enjoy interacting with the public, have a keen eye for detail in handling cash, and thrive in dynamic event settings. The Portland Parking Division is committed to equal opportunity employment, valuing diversity and inclusion, making this a welcoming environment for individuals from all backgrounds and experiences.
