Job Description
The City of Huntington Beach is renowned for its vibrant coastal lifestyle and commitment to maintaining its reputation as one of the best beach cities in the world. It is a place that values community engagement, environmental stewardship, and offering high-quality public services to residents and visitors alike. The Community and Library Services Department plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the city’s recreational and communal amenities, including beach parking and downtown facilities, operate smoothly and efficiently. As such, the City offers non-permanent, part-time employment opportunities that are ideal for individuals passionate about serving the public in a dynamic and lively beach city environment. These roles provide a unique chance to be part of a dedicated team that focuses on enhancing the visitor experience and managing vital services within the community.
Currently, the City is seeking motivated and customer-focused individuals for the role of Parking Attendant. This position is essential to the operation of the city's beach parking systems and downtown parking facility. As a Parking Attendant, you will be at the forefront of daily interactions with the public, tasked with managing parking fees, providing change, and maintaining accurate records of all vehicles entering the parking zones. This role demands someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, outdoor setting and takes pride in delivering exceptional customer service. The position is temporary and part-time, restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 - June 30), with mandatory enrollment in an alternative retirement program through the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). While this role does not qualify for typical City benefits aside from those required by law, it offers invaluable experience in public service and the chance to connect with the vibrant Huntington Beach community. The City of Huntington Beach prides itself on a friendly work culture and emphasizes cooperative teamwork and professionalism among its staff. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to contribute to their community while gaining practical experience in public operations, retail transactions, and customer engagement. The role requires basic mathematical skills, the ability to follow both written and oral instructions, and a strong commitment to providing quality service to the public. If you are seeking a role that is flexible with hours, offers a community-centered work environment, and allows you to be part of a respected municipal team, this position as a Parking Attendant could be an excellent fit for your career aspirations.
