The role available at Arcadia Retirement Residence in Punahou is a full-time Security Guard position, offering an hourly pay range of $17.42 to $20.00. This role is essential in safeguarding residents, employees, visitors, and property by managing security protocols effectively. It requires vigilance, excellent communication skills, and an ability to manage incoming vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely. The security guard will patrol assigned areas, monitor access points, assist residents and visitors, enforce parking rules, and respond appropriately to emergencies. This position also involves issuing trespass warnings, supporting compliance with organizational policies, and maintaining overall safety across the property.
Work shifts include evenings and overnight hours, spanning Monday, Tuesday, Friday through Sunday, providing a mix of night and late afternoon coverage. Arcadia supports its security staff with ongoing training and expects the guard to uphold high standards in professionalism and responsiveness. The role demands a blend of vigilance, customer service skills, and the ability to perform physical activities such as patrolling and vehicle inspections. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- high school graduate or equivalent
- successfully complete 8 hours of classroom training provided by a Board of Private Detectives and Guards approved instructor using Board approved curricula
- pass the required test
- complete 4 hours of on the job training
- possess current DCCA Registered Guard Employee status
- one year of related security experience and/or training
- or equivalent combination of education and experience
- DCCA Registered Guard Employee status required
- current driver's license required
- proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
- capable of regularly sitting and talking or hearing
- frequently standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms
- frequently lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds
- able to see clearly at close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception levels
- able to adjust visual focus
- willingness to work indoor and outdoor environments regardless of weather
- able to work around hazardous materials occasionally
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- completion of 8 hours Board-approved classroom training
- passing required security test
- completion of 4 hours on the job security training
- current DCCA Registered Guard Employee status
- at least one year of related security experience
- valid driver's license
- proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- ability to perform physical security duties including patrolling and lifting
- ability to communicate effectively with residents, visitors, and staff
- knowledge of security operations and emergency procedures
Job Duties
- Provides prompt and courteous services for residents and guests
- patrols assigned areas to provide security and monitor parking areas to ensure compliance with parking rules and safety
- monitors points of access to the property, building and storage areas
- aids residents and visitors with vehicle ingress and egress, providing support in transferring belongings to the Reception Desk
- greets visitors and directs them to register at the Reception Desk
- screens unknown visitors to determine their purpose for being on the property, provides direction and instruction to legitimate visitors, redirects those without legitimate purpose off the property
- ensures proper wellness screening of all non-residents entering the building when applicable
- appropriately issues trespass warnings
- maintains knowledge of and ability to recognize individuals who have been banned from the property or who have supervised visits prearranged with residents and/or Management, handles these individuals following established policies and procedures
- maintains awareness of residents who are in danger of eloping, effectively responds to resident elopement according to established policies and procedures
- supports compliance with organizational policies and procedures concerning employee parking and assigned employee drop off and pick up areas
- observes and reports fire hazards and unsafe conditions
- checks doors and windows for security, locks doors and turns out lights
- provides security escort services as requested to residents, guests or employees
- initiates appropriate action when encountering an unsafe situation
- reports unusual or suspicious occurrences
- responds to emergency situations and calls according to established policies and procedures
- gathers information regarding security related complaints and incidents and reports them to Management according to established policies and procedures
- prepares incident reports, logs and other required record keeping with accuracy and within required timeframes
- conducts routine inspections of company vehicles, reporting discrepancies as needed
- performs washing and refueling of company vehicles as scheduled
- enforces parking rules
- valet/park staff or resident vehicles as needed
- expedites traffic flow during events
