Job Description
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a premier institution combining education, research, and clinical programs. As part of the University of Arkansas System, UAMS is committed to fostering teamwork, diversity, and collaboration to improve patient care and the overall health and well-being of Arkansans. Recognized for its commitment to innovation and excellence in healthcare, UAMS provides an inclusive work environment where employees are encouraged to grow professionally and contribute meaningfully to the community. With a strong emphasis on public safety and quality services, UAMS is continually striving to enhance its operations to maintain a safe, orderly, and accessible campus environment for all students, staff, patients, and visitors.
Within this vibrant and dynamic institution, the role of Parking Ambassador is essential to the efficient management of campus parking and transportation services. This professional staff position, classified under Public Safety, plays a vital role in facilitating smooth parking operations across the UAMS campus. The Parking Ambassador is primarily responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, managing parking transactions, enforcing parking regulations, and ensuring compliance with the university's parking policies. The position operates on a regular duty schedule and requires a proactive approach to problem-solving in both routine and exceptional situations.
Parking Ambassadors engage with the community regularly, assisting with pay stations and exit verifiers, answering inquiries about parking regulations, and providing resolutions to ticket disputes or parking violations. A critical aspect of the job includes patrolling the campus to identify and address illegal parking through warnings, citations, or booting vehicles when necessary, helping to maintain order and maximize parking availability. Additionally, the Parking Ambassador conducts lot counts, monitors available spaces, and reports maintenance issues to ensure the campus infrastructure remains functional and safe.
The role requires operating the sophisticated Remote Parking Management System (RPMS), which is staffed around the clock throughout the year. This responsibility involves monitoring cameras and assisting customers remotely with their parking needs. Should remote assistance fail to resolve concerns, the ambassador must provide in-person assistance promptly. During less busy hours, the Parking Ambassador may undertake database management and clerical tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency of the parking operations team.
Candidates for this role must possess ACIC/NCIC certification and hold a valid Arkansas driver’s license, demonstrating a level of preparedness and professional qualification appropriate for maintaining campus security and safety. The position offers a competitive annual salary of $33,280, equating to approximately $16 per hour, and includes a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees. This package encompasses medical, dental, and vision plans, holiday and vacation leave, education discounts, retirement contributions, life insurance, career training, and other valuable perks aimed at supporting staff well-being and development.
UAMS strongly endorses equal employment opportunities without discrimination based on legally protected characteristics. The organization requires proof of legal work authority for all employees and conducts rigorous pre-employment screenings, including criminal background checks, drug testing, TB screening, and motor vehicle record reviews, aligning with its commitment to campus safety.
In all, the Parking Ambassador position at UAMS presents a unique opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking healthcare education institution while contributing to the essential function of campus safety and parking management. This role is suited to candidates who are customer-oriented, detail-focused, and ready to engage in both physical activity and administrative responsibilities. Joining UAMS means committing to a collaborative, inclusive, and service-driven workplace dedicated to making a difference across Arkansas.
