Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada (VOA-NCNN) is a reputable nonprofit organization with a rich history dating back to 1911. As a ministry of service, VOA-NCNN is committed to helping individuals and families in need to rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. With nearly 500 paid professional employees, the organization operates over 40 programs across Northern California and Northern Nevada, including housing, employment services, substance abuse treatment, and recovery support. This makes VOA-NCNN one of the largest providers of social services in the region, catering to a diverse population, including families, individuals, veterans, seniors, and youth. Every night, VOA-NCNN provides shelter or housing to more than 4,000 men, women, and children, demonstrating their significant impact and dedication to community welfare.

The core mission of VOA-NCNN is to change individual lives, instill hope, increase self-worth, and facilitate independence through quality housing, employment, and comprehensive supportive services. It inspires self-sufficiency, dignity, and hope by delivering critical health and human services to thousands of vulnerable individuals and families. The organization emphasizes a holistic approach to social services, ensuring that clients receive the necessary care and support to overcome challenges and achieve lasting stability.

VOA-NCNN has earned recognition as a Certified Great Place to Work, reflecting its positive work environment and commitment to employee well-being. The organization is currently recruiting for a part-time Prep Cook at the Parker House program, an 85-bed facility offering short-term emergency housing (up to 30 days) and intensive supportive services specifically for homeless families with dependent children. This part-time role comes with benefits such as paid holidays, vacation, and sick pay, highlighting VOA-NCNN's commitment to supporting its workforce.

The Prep Cook position is essential within the Parker House food program, responsible for meal preparation, dining facility setup and cleanup, and creating a welcoming environment for clients. The role includes executing daily kitchen tasks such as preparing ingredient lists, packaging and labeling meals, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and managing stock. The Prep Cook works closely with the Head Chef to complete daily prep lists and ensures all food and supplies are stored properly. Adherence to nutrition, food safety, sanitation guidelines, as well as VOA policies and safety standards, is critical to the role.

This position offers an opportunity to be part of a meaningful cause, contributing directly to the well-being of homeless families during vulnerable periods. The Prep Cook role not only demands practical cooking skills but also requires the ability to communicate effectively and operate within a supportive and compassionate service model. Employees are encouraged to develop professionally through ongoing training, certification, and participation in staff meetings, fostering both personal growth and enhanced service delivery. The pay rate for this role is $20.60 per hour, reflecting the organization's commitment to fair compensation.
