Job Description

Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada (VOA-NCNN) is a distinguished nonprofit organization and ministry of service dedicated to empowering individuals and families to rebuild their lives and achieve their full potential. Established in 1911, VOA-NCNN stands as one of the largest providers of social services across the Northern California and Northern Nevada region. With a professional workforce of nearly 500 dedicated employees, the organization administers a wide range of programs that address critical social issues, including housing, employment services, substance abuse, and recovery services. These efforts are focused on serving diverse populations such as families, individuals, veterans, seniors, and youth. VOA-NCNN plays a vital role in providing shelter and housing to over 4,000 men, women, and children each night, underscoring its commitment to alleviating homelessness and enhancing community well-being.

VOA-NCNN is actively recruiting a part-time Prep Cook for its Parker House Family Shelter program, an 85-bed facility offering short-term emergency housing and intensive supportive services to homeless families with dependent children. Recognized as a Certified Great Place to Work, this role offers part-time employees paid holidays, vacation, and sick pay benefits. The position involves essential kitchen duties including meal preparation, dining facility setup and clean-up, and maintaining a welcoming environment for clients. Responsibilities include managing ingredient organization, following recipe measures, performing basic cooking tasks, and adhering to all food safety and sanitation standards. This role requires both technical kitchen skills and the ability to contribute positively to the supportive, client-centered atmosphere of the shelter. Compensation for the role is set at $20.60 per hour, promoting fair pay aligned with the responsibilities.
