Job Description
Tillamook County Parks Department is dedicated to preserving and providing access to beautiful natural environments and recreational spaces throughout Tillamook County. As a government entity responsible for managing the county's parks and campgrounds, the department is committed to offering safe, enjoyable, and well-maintained outdoor experiences for residents and visitors alike. Recognized for its stunning coastal and forest landscapes, Tillamook County Parks plays a vital role in community engagement, environmental stewardship, and tourism. The department operates various campgrounds that welcome thousands of guests during the summer and beyond, ensuring they have memorable visits while protecting natural resources.
The Park Host role is a seasonal volunteer position designed to support the county's mission by representing Tillamook County Parks in the campgrounds during the peak visitor season. Park Hosts reside onsite at their assigned campground, serving as primary points of contact for campers, visitors, and Parks staff. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about nature, community service, and outdoor living who seek to contribute meaningfully to maintaining a positive and safe environment for all visitors. Hosts must supply their own RV or camping trailer and are expected to live on-site, maintaining an orderly and welcoming presence.
During their tenure, Park Hosts perform a range of duties from guest services and maintenance to enforcing park policies set forth in the Tillamook County Ordinance 43. This ordinance outlines the standards for conduct and operations within the parks, which Hosts must abide by in their responsibilities. The season runs from May 1 through October 1, with volunteer hosts arriving in early April for orientations and training sessions to prepare for the busy summer months. Hosts are expected to work four hours per day, five days a week, with two consecutive days off. Paid contracted opportunities are available for certain hosts who work eight-hour days and may extend into the winter season.
This role requires strong communication skills, a commitment to setting a positive example through personal conduct and campsite upkeep, and readiness to respond to emergencies or guest needs. Hosts are tasked with greeting visitors, providing information, and helping maintain cleanliness and order by managing campground facilities such as restrooms and campsites. They also perform light maintenance duties like mowing and landscaping, contributing to the overall aesthetics and safety of the campgrounds.
In return, Park Hosts receive compensation in the form of a full hook-up RV site with water, sewer, electric, and propane utilities, as well as a fire pit and picnic table for their personal use during the season. Additional support includes comprehensive training, provision of uniforms and necessary tools, and the satisfaction of playing a crucial role in enriching the camper experience while helping preserve the natural beauty of Tillamook County's parks. This opportunity presents a unique blend of outdoor living, community engagement, and seasonal employment or volunteer service in one of Oregon's most picturesque areas.
