Job Description
St. John Catholic Church - San Marcos is a vibrant parish community deeply rooted in faith, tradition, and service. Situated in San Marcos, Texas, this Catholic institution serves as a spiritual home for many families and individuals seeking to deepen their relationship with God and participate in a welcoming, faith-centered environment. With a strong commitment to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, St. John Catholic Church emphasizes pastoral care, community service, and religious education. As part of the Diocese of Austin, the parish undertakes various ministries and initiatives aimed at fostering spiritual growth, charitable outreach, and community engagement. The parish is known for its rich liturgical celebrations, educational programs, and social events that bring parishioners together in faith and fellowship.
The Secretary position at St. John Catholic Church - San Marcos plays a pivotal role in supporting the pastoral leadership and the overall mission of the parish. This position provides comprehensive administrative and clerical assistance directly to the Pastor and Associate Pastor, enabling them to focus on their essential ministerial duties. The Secretary is responsible for managing office communications, maintaining clergy and church calendars, preparing correspondence, and coordinating various parish activities and sacramental events. This role requires a nurturing yet professional approach, as the Secretary serves as a welcoming face and voice for visitors and callers, reflecting the church's mission and values. The Secretary also assists with scheduling appointments for counseling and sacraments, managing parish records, and supporting the organization of parish events such as weddings, funerals, and celebrations like confirmations and ordinations.
Candidates for this role must be practicing Roman Catholics in good standing, committed to upholding the philosophy of Catholic ministry both professionally and personally. The job demands strong organizational skills, exceptional communication abilities in both English and Spanish, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and a deep familiarity with Catholic teachings and parish operations. This position offers an opportunity to actively participate in the parish's mission of making Christ’s presence and message enduring within the community. The Secretary works as an essential collaborator in ministry, contributing to the unity and spiritual life of the parish. The role requires flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, and occasionally travel for parish activities and meetings. By joining the team at St. John Catholic Church, the Secretary becomes an integral part of a faith-driven community dedicated to service, education, and spiritual nourishment.
