Job Requirements

  • Must pass a medical evaluation and respirator fit test
  • must be able to wear an N95 particulate filter respirator mask per PEOSHA standards
  • active, valid certification as NJ Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic or NJ Mobile Intensive Care Nurse
  • MICN applicants must obtain certification before completing the probationary period
  • valid driver’s license with NJ driving privileges
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Provider certification
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider certification
  • AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or PEPP-A certification
  • Incident Command System (ICS) Level 100 or higher
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) Awareness (FEMA IS-700 or equivalent)
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness or higher
  • CBRNE or WMD Awareness or higher
  • minimum of two (2) years EMS experience
  • minimum of two (2) years EMS driving experience with a clean driving record
  • must pass a background check and physical exam for paramedics seeking NJ reciprocity
  • must obtain provisional EMT-Paramedic certification from NJDOH before starting work if applicable
  • must obtain full NJ Paramedic certification per N.J.A.C. 8:41A-4.2 to remain employed

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of EMS experience
  • minimum of two (2) years of EMS driving experience with a clean driving record
  • CEVO (Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator) training course preferred
  • valid PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support) or BTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support) provider card preferred
  • bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred
  • previous experience with electronic medical records preferred
  • active, valid certification as NJ Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic or NJ Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN)
  • MICN applicants must obtain certification before completing the probationary period
  • valid driver’s license with NJ driving privileges
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Provider certification
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider certification
  • AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or PEPP-A (Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Professionals – Advanced) certification

Job Duties

  • Provides and directs both Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) in the pre-hospital setting
  • works in coordination with EMS team members under the direction of a licensed Medical Control Physician (MCP) and EMS Supervisor
  • responds to emergencies involving patients of all ages and backgrounds, in all weather and environmental conditions
  • uses appropriate equipment and techniques to assess, treat, lift, and safely transport patients
  • transports patients to appropriate medical facilities based on condition and care needs
  • accurately completes all required reports and documentation
  • performs additional duties as assigned to support efficient EMS operations
  • represents University Hospital and EMS with professionalism, integrity, and compassion
