Currently, HMSHost is seeking enthusiastic and skilled Cooks to join their team. This is a non-exempt, hourly position that offers a starting wage of $19.00 per hour. The Cook role is integral to the daily operations of HMSHost's dining establishments, ensuring that every meal prepared meets the highest standards of quality and safety. The Cook is responsible for preparing a variety of cooked foods, adeptly handling multiple kitchen stations such as Fry, Flat Top Griddle, Pantry, and eggs cooking stations. This position demands keen attention to detail, strong communication skills for coordinating order timing and addressing any issues with management and servers, and adherence to company policies and health standards including HACCP guidelines. Employees in this role will engage in multisensory tasks such as measuring ingredients, seasoning, and cooking meats, vegetables, soups, and desserts while maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of their work areas. Job Requirements

  • Requires food preparation skills and knowledge of HACCP standards
  • Requires a minimum of 1 year of closely related cooking experience
  • Work experience in high volume and casual dining restaurant environment preferred
  • Requires food knowledge pertaining to soups, saute, broiler, fry, and pantry
  • Requires the ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents
  • Requires the ability to lift and or move up to 40 pounds
  • Requires the ability to bend, twist, and stand to perform normal job functions
  • Frequently immerses hands in water and water diluted with chemical solutions
  • Frequently works with sharp knives, utensils and hot plates
  • Frequently works in hot environment

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of closely related cooking experience
  • Experience in high volume and casual dining restaurant environments preferred
  • Food preparation skills and knowledge of HACCP standards
  • Food knowledge pertaining to soups, saute, broiler, fry, and pantry stations
  • Ability to speak, read, and comprehend instructions and policy documents
  • Strong communication skills to interact comfortably with customers
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to bend, twist, and stand for normal job functions

Job Duties

  • Prepare cooked foods by following recipes and product directions including seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving food items such as soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts
  • Communicate ticket times and potential problems to managers and servers
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitization of work stations and kitchen equipment
  • Operate a variety of kitchen equipment including fryers, flat top griddles, and other cooking appliances
  • Measure and mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut, and shred fruits and vegetables
  • Stock, date, rotate, and check temperatures of food products
  • Practice excellent food safety and sanitation complying with HACCP standards
