Job Description
Operation HOPE-North County is a vital nonprofit organization serving as a critical entry point into the San Diego County Homelessness Continuum of Care. Focused on supporting families with children and single women who are experiencing homelessness or are at imminent risk of homelessness, Operation HOPE-North County provides essential services including temporary shelter, case management, and comprehensive supportive programs. These initiatives aim to help clients overcome significant barriers and pave a path toward long-term housing stability and self-sufficiency. As part of the broader effort to address homelessness in the region, this organization plays a crucial role by offering not only immediate relief but also ongoing support to foster resilience and independence within the communities they serve.
The Pantry Manager position is a part-time, non-exempt role reporting directly to the Associate Director, with a work schedule of 12 hours per week, distributed across Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. This role is based on-site and offers a competitive wage of $20 per hour. The Pantry Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the Pantry of HOPE as well as assisting in the coordination of the New Beginnings Boutique. This important role ensures that community members and shelter residents have reliable access to food, essential household items, and a compassionate, welcoming environment.
The ideal candidate brings a blend of compassion, dependability, and strong organizational skills, coupled with a passion for serving vulnerable populations. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required to effectively communicate with the diverse populations served by the organization. Beyond administrative and logistical tasks, the Pantry Manager is expected to create a trauma-informed space where clients feel respected and supported. This position involves coordinating food preparation and distribution, managing food donations, maintaining food safety standards, and collaborating closely with volunteers. Additionally, the Pantry Manager supports the New Beginnings Boutique by helping to maintain organization, assist with volunteer coordination, and prepare community shopping hours.
The Pantry Manager must be flexible and adaptable, capable of working both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This role is instrumental in supporting the organization's mission by directly impacting the daily lives of people in need, ensuring dignity and respect in service delivery. Experience in food distribution, nonprofit work, community outreach, or customer service is preferred, further equipping the candidate to meet the diverse challenges of this rewarding position.
Overall, this position offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of those facing homelessness or housing instability. By managing the pantry operations and contributing to community engagement, the Pantry Manager helps to foster a supportive network essential for the health and well-being of the North County community. Those interested in this role should be motivated by a strong sense of community service and inspired to create positive change through dedicated effort and compassionate interaction.
