The Salvation Army is a renowned international movement and evangelical part of the universal Christian church. With a mission firmly rooted in the Bible and motivated by the love of God, The Salvation Army dedicates itself to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and addressing human needs without discrimination. The organization operates in various sectors, including social services, disaster relief, and community programs, aiming to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and communities worldwide. Known for its compassionate approach and comprehensive support systems, The Salvation Army has built a trusting reputation over many decades, assisting those in need irrespective of background or belief.

The Food Pantry Coordinator role at The Salvation Army is an essential part-time position, designed for individuals passionate about community service and food assistance programs. This role involves managing the food pantry's daily operations, overseeing inventory, coordinating food drives, and assisting with the noon lunch program. The successful candidate will serve as the heart of food services, supervising volunteers and senior aides and ensuring all activities comply with health codes, safety regulations, and organizational policies. Offering $16.00 to $19.00 per hour for a 25-hour weekly schedule, this position comes with a generous benefits package, including vacation, sick days, paid holidays, personal days, PTO opportunities through wellness programs, pension contributions, and voluntary life insurance.

The Food Pantry Coordinator is responsible for maintaining an efficient and effective food distribution system, from receiving donations to preparing and serving well-balanced meals. This includes managing invoices, exploring cost-effective procurement options, and collaborating with vendors and donors. Importantly, the role demands excellent communication and organizational skills to support seasonal activities and special events, with adherence to food handling requirements and county licensure.

In addition to overseeing pantry operations, this role involves hands-on work in the kitchen, such as storing, labeling, and cleaning equipment and supplies. The coordinator plays a pivotal role in managing the lunchroom during program times, addressing client behaviors with respect and empathy, and intervening when crises arise. This position requires a flexible schedule to provide coverage during vacations and absences and to fulfill food and beverage requests for various meetings and events.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least three years of experience in food services, inventory management, and working with large groups. Certifications such as ServSafe, First Aid, CPR, and AED are required within the initial months of employment. The role demands proficiency in commercial kitchen equipment, menu planning, crisis intervention, supervision, and computer applications including Microsoft Office. The ability to manage budgets, maintain confidentiality, and communicate effectively in English is essential.

The physical demands include occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, and using various office and kitchen equipment. The work environment varies from warm kitchen settings to cold storage areas and may involve outdoor events with exposure to weather conditions. The Salvation Army encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds, including those impacted by the justice system, veterans, people with disabilities, and those without a college degree, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity.

This position provides an opportunity to grow professionally within an organization deeply committed to making a positive impact. The Salvation Army supports its employees through paid training and development, promoting an environment where dedication to community service meets career advancement.
