Job Description

The Salvation Army is a globally recognized international movement operating as an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Rooted in Bible-based teachings and motivated by the love of God, this organization has a powerful mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and address human needs without any form of discrimination. Known for its humanitarian outreach, The Salvation Army serves diverse communities through various social service programs, ranging from emergency relief to food and shelter services. The organization places utmost importance on compassion, faith-driven service, and inclusivity, helping individuals regardless of their background or challenges they face.

Within this compassionate framework, the role of Pantry and Meals Supervisor plays a critical part in the smooth and effective delivery of food services at The Salvation Army. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of food preparation, coordination of Gift-in-Kind (GIK) food donations, and management of community meal services and pantry operations. The Pantry and Meals Supervisor ensures that all food-related activities meet strict guidelines concerning safety, cleanliness, and nutrition. Additionally, this role requires collaboration with Corps leadership, volunteers, and community donors to ensure a consistent and reliable supply of nutritious meals to individuals and families in need. The supervisor also manages food inventory, plans menus for community meals and special events, and adheres to USDA, Food Bank, and Salvation Army policies.

The position is hourly paid, offering between $22.00 and $24.00 per hour, reflecting the importance and scope of responsibilities managed by the Pantry and Meals Supervisor. This role demands physical endurance as it involves active kitchen work, including operating appliances, packing food items, and standing or moving for extended periods. A significant aspect of the position includes maintaining accurate meal statistics and reporting data regularly to support the administrative team. The supervisor must also obtain and maintain a Food Handler's certification within the first 30 days of employment and hold a valid California Driver's License for transporting food donation pickups.

Given the essential community services provided by The Salvation Army, the Pantry and Meals Supervisor must exhibit strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to work empathetically with vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness. This role also supports broader social service and outreach events, aligning with the organization’s mission to meet human needs in Jesus’ name.
