The role of an Emergency Veterinary Technician is essential to the hospital's mission to provide top-quality emergency care. Job Requirements

  • Current unrestricted veterinary technician license as required by state
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in emergency or critical care veterinary settings
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including nights weekends and holidays
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced emergency environment
  • Authorization to work legally in the U.S.
  • No visa sponsorship available

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited veterinary technology program
  • Certification as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of anesthesia techniques and emergency patient care
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and intravenous catheter placement
  • Experience in digital radiography and patient monitoring
  • Ability to mentor and train co-workers
  • Excellent communication skills including empathy with clients

Job Duties

  • Induce monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia monitoring equipment
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate respiratory rate and blood pressure
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate temperature blood pressure and oxygen saturation
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR
  • Properly calculate medical math including constant rate infusions and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
