Job Description
Interstate Waste Services (IWS) stands as the most progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services in the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, with an additional rail-served landfill located in Ohio. Founded in 1998, IWS has steadily grown and expanded its operations primarily through acquisitions of many family-owned businesses that remain integral parts of the company's team today. This unique combination enables IWS to operate with the resources and scale of a large company while maintaining the values, care, and personalized attention typical of a family-run business. The company serves a diverse range of industrial, medical, commercial, and residential clients, prioritizing both high-quality service and the safety of its employees, customers, and the communities where it operates.
The Lead Dispatcher at Interstate Waste Services plays a critical role in the company's day-to-day waste collection operations. This position requires highly organized and proactive individuals who can coordinate and manage multiple operational routes across various sites efficiently. The Lead Dispatcher acts as the primary communication link between drivers, supervisors, and customers, ensuring that all waste collection routes are executed timely and comply with operational standards. The role involves analyzing route data to maximize vehicle utilization, reduce costs, and improve overall service quality. It demands a strong focus on employee safety, with responsibilities including monitoring safety protocols and taking proactive steps to address potential hazards.
This is a self-directed leadership role requiring independent work ethic and strong decision-making capabilities. The Lead Dispatcher is also responsible for establishing and documenting standard operating procedures for live dispatch activities and assisting in the onboarding and training of new dispatch team members. The role requires excellent multitasking abilities, as the dispatcher manages vehicle scheduling, monitors driver performance in compliance with Department of Transportation regulations, handles customer service requests, and responds promptly to unexpected events such as vehicle breakdowns or accidents. Effective communication skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure are key to success in this dynamic position.
The position offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $90,000 to $105,000. Employees will join a company that encourages career growth, operational excellence, and a strong commitment to workplace safety. Working with cutting-edge operations software and routing tools, the Lead Dispatcher will have an essential hand in optimizing waste collection services that impact multiple states and thousands of customers. The role may occasionally require early mornings, evenings, or weekend hours based on operational needs, as well as possible field visits to better understand route challenges. Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required, offering an added advantage in communicating within the diverse communities served by IWS.
Joining Interstate Waste Services offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to an environmentally responsible organization dedicated to sustainable waste management and recycling services. As the Lead Dispatcher, candidates will be at the forefront of operational efficiency and customer satisfaction, playing a vital role in supporting the company’s mission to deliver exceptional service while protecting public health and the environment.
