The role being offered is a Floor Technician and Custodial position within the BWI Airport complex, designed for individuals interested in maintaining cleanliness and safety in a high-traffic environment. This position involves manual labor tasks such as cleaning, buffing, waxing, and stripping floors using mechanical equipment. The technician will be responsible for the upkeep of flooring surfaces, operating various floor care machines, and performing preventative maintenance on equipment. This is a shift-based role operating from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am, including weekend shifts on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with Tuesday and Wednesday off. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Six months of floor technician or custodial experience preferred
- Ability to work night shifts including weekends
- Ability to perform manual labor including lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs with assistance
- Ability to stand or walk continuously for long periods
- Ability to follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment
- Must comply with security and building requirements for airport access
- Ability to attend work regularly and follow company schedules
- Must comply with uniform and personal hygiene standards
- Willingness to work flexible schedules including holidays
- Ability to participate in training and meetings
- Must comply with company policies and contract specifications
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Floor technician training desired
- Knowledge of floor finishes, applications, and removals
- Ability to operate floor care equipment
- Previous experience operating machinery preferred
- Six months of floor technician experience preferred
- Six months of custodial experience
- Ability to follow directions and focus on tasks
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and environmental requirements
- Ability to mix chemicals properly
- Ability to use and care for equipment and cleaning supplies
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work with limited supervision
Job Duties
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures and follow contract specifications
- Comply with uniform dress code and personal hygiene standards
- Clean all assigned areas according to contract specifications
- Prepare areas by removing loose objects before cleaning
- Utilize equipment, cleaners, and wet floor signs properly and safely
- Perform preventative maintenance checks on equipment before and after use
- Report any equipment issues after use
- Sweep and mop stairwells
- Strip, seal, wax, burnish, and buff floors
- Operate floor machines such as scrubbers, buffers, and vacuum cleaners
- Perform high cleaning in various airport areas using lift equipment
- Clean walls, signage, vents, light lenses, and security checkpoint items
- Maintain glass and brightwork surfaces
- Assist with inventory and general custodial duties
- Follow safety rules and procedures
- Attend and participate in training and work-related meetings
