Job Description

The YMCA of Southern Nevada is a deeply rooted nonprofit organization established in 1944, making it one of the region's most respected and longest-serving institutions. Dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals across all ages, abilities, backgrounds, and income levels, the YMCA operates with a powerful mission: ensuring that every person has the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity and without facing barriers related to cost. This commitment is demonstrated through an extensive portfolio of programs and services, ranging from childcare and senior activities to sports, education, fitness centers, chronic disease management, swim lessons, and feeding programs. The YMCA acts as a cornerstone for the community, holistically strengthening its foundations by providing inclusive, supportive, and impactful resources for all its members.

The YMCA of Southern Nevada is currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Outdoor Education Coordinator to join their team on a part-time, in-person basis. This role requires approximately 15 hours per week and operates primarily from the Heinrich YMCA facility at 4141 Meadows Lane. The Outdoor Education Coordinator will play a vital role in planning, organizing, and delivering quality outdoor education programs for YMCA members, including the popular Take-a-Hike program—offering free, guided outdoor excursions. This position also involves delivering educational experiences for youth participants in Summer Camp and Power Scholars programs, ensuring activities are age-appropriate, safe, inclusive, and aligned with YMCA values and educational standards.

The Coordinator will be responsible for a wide array of tasks such as developing lesson plans, coordinating logistical details for hikes and other outdoor activities, maintaining accurate records and reports, and adhering strictly to YMCA safety and risk management practices. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with other departments to integrate programming efforts, managing program supplies and equipment, and serving as a positive role model to youths and families alike. Working schedules may include evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays to meet program needs. This position offers a unique combination of administrative duties and hands-on outdoor leadership with a community-oriented focus.

With a starting wage of $15 per hour and valuable benefits including paid time off, retirement contributions, free YMCA family memberships, and program discounts, this role provides a rewarding environment where employees are supported and valued. The YMCA fosters an inspiring workplace culture emphasizing belonging, genuineness, nurturing growth, determination, service, and safety. Employees contribute meaningfully to strengthening their communities while enjoying a flexible and collaborative work atmosphere. This position is ideal for those passionate about outdoor education, youth development, and community engagement, who are eager to make a positive impact in Southern Nevada.
