Job Description
Team DriveAway is a reputable transportation and logistics company specializing in independent contractor driving opportunities across multiple divisions such as Singles, Non-CDL, New Deck, Used Deck, and Boom. With a strong commitment to offering flexible and rewarding work options for professional drivers, Team DriveAway has built a solid reputation for connecting drivers with nationwide over-the-road (OTR) transportation jobs. The company operates by contracting with drivers to transport units across the country rather than employing traditional company drivers or owner/operators, allowing contractors the freedom to select loads that align with their schedules and preferences.
Team DriveAway’s model offers drivers the autonomy to manage their workload while benefiting from competitive compensation and a supportive operational framework. This is not a typical company driver position nor an owner/operator role, setting it apart as a great choice for those who want control over their driving schedule without the full responsibilities of owning a truck. Drivers have the flexibility to run between two to five loads per month, maintaining an active status by selecting loads that suit their availability and lifestyle.
The driving role primarily involves transporting vehicles ranging from 300 to 800 miles per load on average, depending on customer demands. Drivers operate independently and solo, as the company does not utilize team driving arrangements despite the 'Team' in its name. This setup provides seasoned drivers the opportunity to optimize their time and earnings while adhering to strict safety and regulatory standards.
Compensation at Team DriveAway is competitive, ranging from $0.72 to $1.55 per mile, including a fuel surcharge for most driving divisions. The company also offers same-day pay once all required paperwork and logs are submitted and approved, allowing drivers to maintain steady cash flow. Beyond the base pay, numerous bonus opportunities are available, including referral bonuses, clean inspection bonuses, mileage bonuses, load bonuses, and safety bonuses, enhancing overall earning potential.
Additional benefits include the flexibility of being an Independent Contractor, which means no benefits are provided by the company directly since it is a 1099 position. This format gives drivers more control over their work commitments and potential for income, but independent drivers should manage their own healthcare and retirement plans.
The role demands strict compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including maintaining accurate daily logs through the MOTIVE app, as paper logs are not accepted. Drivers must check in regularly with dispatch, accurately document all trips with pre- and post-trip inspections, and provide photo documentation for every load. The use of MacroPoint for Truckers is also required to provide real-time load tracking to customers. Punctuality, professionalism, and communication are critical components of the position, ensuring timely pickups and deliveries and smooth coordination with dispatch and customers.
To qualify, candidates must hold a valid driver's license appropriate to their division (Non-CDL, Class A, or Class B CDL with double/triple endorsements for deck positions). At least one year of verifiable over-the-road commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driving experience within the last three years is required, with more experience needed for deck positions. Drivers must have a clean driving record, stable employment history, and the ability to provide past employment and DOT compliance documentation. Rideshare or delivery service driving does not count towards the required professional driving experience.
Contracted drivers must supply their own tools and equipment for decking and un-decking trucks, maintain at least a quarter tank of fuel during transport, and carry escrow, occupational/accidental insurance, and deductible buy-back insurance as required by the company. The position requires a professional attitude and a commitment to upholding safety standards and customer satisfaction.
In summary, Team DriveAway offers a compelling driving opportunity for experienced, responsible professional drivers who seek flexible, independent work with competitive pay and multiple avenues for bonuses. As an entity focused on delivering quality vehicle transportation services nationwide, the company emphasizes regulatory compliance and driver autonomy, creating a mutually beneficial partnership with its independent contractor drivers.
