Job Description

The hiring establishment is a healthcare facility specializing in surgical services that operates a dynamic and fast-paced environment to provide efficient and effective patient care. The institution places a high priority on maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized operating room (OR) to promote positive patient outcomes and adhere to strict health and safety standards. This facility recognizes the critical role of dedicated support staff in the operating room, who work closely under the supervision of clinical managers and supervisors to ensure all necessary resources and equipment are readily available for surgical procedures. The collaborative culture encourages a multidisciplinary team approach, emphasizing clear communication and adherence to infection control protocols and regulatory standards to uphold patient safety and departmental efficiencies.

The role being offered is for an Operating Room Assistant, a vital position within the surgical support team. The Operating Room Assistant is responsible for a variety of essential tasks, including patient moving and transportation, handling of blood products and specimens, equipment transport and maintenance, and ensuring that the operating room is properly stocked and prepared for surgical cases. The position also requires cleaning and sterilizing supplies, storage, and distribution of anesthesia support materials, and maintaining room readiness at all times. This role demands physical stamina, as the assistant must regularly lift, carry, push, or pull heavy loads, often up to 50 pounds or more, and work predominantly on weekends, holidays, and graveyard shifts.

The incumbent is expected to have proficiency in operating specialized equipment with dexterity and to possess excellent communication skills to effectively take directions and collaborate with a diverse healthcare team. Knowledge of infection control principles, including familiarity with disinfectants, germicides, sterilants, and related standards such as AORN and AAMI, is essential. An awareness of potential exposure risks to hazardous materials and compliance with government regulations such as JCAHO, OSHA, and Waste Management guidelines is also critical to ensure a safe working environment. Preference is given to candidates with prior experience in hospital operating rooms, demonstrating the importance of specialized knowledge in this role.

Overall, this position provides an excellent opportunity for motivated professionals seeking to contribute to surgical care within a supportive and structured environment. It allows growth through learning and collaboration, supporting both clinical and operational goals. Employment specifics such as salary and benefits align with industry standards, offering competitive remuneration and a comprehensive benefits package to promote employee well-being and satisfaction.
