Job Description

The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs is a dedicated government agency committed to serving the men and women who have bravely served in the United States military. Their mission is to provide high-quality care and support to veterans and their families, ensuring they receive the honors and assistance they rightfully deserve. Within this agency, the Alexander "Sandy" Nininger State Veterans' Nursing Home located in Pembroke Pines, Broward County, FL, operates as a skilled nursing facility that fosters a supportive and positive work environment. The facility is known for its loyal team of long-term employees and a strong, collaborative work culture. As a part of this team, employees share a commitment to delivering compassionate and effective care to veterans residing in the nursing home.

The role of OPS Food Service Administrator at this facility is a vital one, encompassing a range of responsibilities that ensure the smooth operation of food services while adhering to federal, state, and VA regulations. This is a temporary position paid at an hourly rate of $16.57 and paid bi-weekly. Candidates may be eligible for benefits if they work an average of 30 or more hours per week. The Food Service Administrator will work under the supervision of the Food Service Director, assisting in the day-to-day management of food service operations. This position requires an individual capable of overseeing staffing, monitoring food preparation, maintaining sanitary conditions, and ensuring compliance with nutritional needs of the nursing home residents as determined in consultation with a dietician.

This role demands someone with strong organizational skills and the ability to train and motivate a diverse kitchen team, including Food Support Specialists and Food Support Workers. The Food Service Administrator will also be responsible for inventory control, verifying incoming shipments, coordinating purchase requests for food and supplies, and ensuring all kitchen equipment is properly maintained. The position requires physical activity such as lifting items up to 50 pounds and the ability to work 10-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed.

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of verifiable cooking experience in a commercial or cafeteria-style setting, with preference given to those experienced in skilled care or long-term care facilities and supervisory roles. Basic computer skills are necessary to perform administrative duties effectively. Additionally, successful completion of employment screenings—including a national background investigation and drug testing—is required.
