Job Description
Florida State University (FSU) is one of the nation’s elite research universities with a rich history dating back to 1851, making it the oldest continuous site of higher education in Florida. Known for preserving, expanding, and disseminating knowledge across various disciplines — including sciences, technology, arts, humanities, and professional studies — FSU embraces a liberal arts tradition and a culture of critical thinking. The university prides itself on a vibrant campus community energized by innovative ideas shaping the future. FSU’s commitment to research and creativity fosters an encouraging environment for faculty, staff, and students alike.
Within this esteemed institution, the Student Veterans Center (SVC) plays a pivotal role in supporting veterans transitioning into academic and campus life. The SVC is dedicated to fostering a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that honors the service and contributions of student veterans. To further this mission, FSU is seeking a part-time Event Coordinator to join the Student Veterans Center team. This role reports to the Business Manager and is vital in planning, promoting, and executing events tailored to the needs and interests of the veteran community.
The Event Coordinator will be responsible for organizing a variety of SVC events and activities such as monthly breakfasts and lunches, three annual veteran and cadet graduation ceremonies, semester kickoff events, orientation open houses, military appreciation athletic events, and the annual Military Ball. This role requires a dynamic individual who can efficiently manage multiple events, foster partnerships, and ensure seamless communication across university units and external collaborators.
In this flexible, part-time position requiring 20 hours per week, the Event Coordinator will regularly represent the SVC at event-related planning meetings, update administrators and staff with relevant information, prepare detailed agendas, and coordinate event-related communications. The coordinator will also maintain close working relationships with key partners including the Veterans Alliance members, Florida State University Panama City Campus, Career Center, Alumni Association, Athletics Marketing, ROTC units, and University Relations.
Additionally, the role demands proactive engagement with local caterers, venues, businesses, and organizations to develop veteran-focused experiences both on and off campus. The Event Coordinator must possess a strong background in event planning and budget management to ensure cost-effective, high-quality events that positively impact the veteran student body.
The position offers an anticipated salary of $20.00 per hour and requires occasional evening and weekend shifts. As this is an OPS (Other Personnel Services) appointment, there is flexibility in scheduling. Applicants should note that due to the nature of the duties, a criminal history background check will be required prior to employment. This role is crucial for ensuring that the Student Veterans Center can sustain its tradition of exceptional programming and community engagement for veterans at Florida State University.
Interested candidates who meet the qualifications are encouraged to apply through the FSU Careers site. FSU is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer dedicated to fostering diverse and inclusive workplaces.
