Job Description
The Operations Supervisor - Air Freight position is offered by a leading company specializing in international logistics and freight forwarding services. This company is dedicated to providing exceptional air freight solutions, ensuring the seamless and cost-effective movement of goods worldwide. Known for its strong commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction, the organization operates within the highly dynamic global transportation and supply chain industry. It leverages advanced freight forwarding technologies and a skilled workforce to maintain and enhance its position as a trusted partner to airlines, customs brokers, overseas offices, and various other stakeholders in the air freight sector.
This is a full-time onsite role that involves leading the day-to-day air import and export operations. The Operations Supervisor will take charge of overseeing a team of air freight professionals, ensuring all shipments comply with international trade regulations and company standards. The role demands a detail-oriented and hands-on leader, who will act as a subject matter expert in export documentation, import clearance, carrier coordination, and customer service. Beyond managing the team, this individual will collaborate closely with various internal departments as well as external partners such as airlines, customs brokers, and overseas agents. The goal is to drive operational efficiency, maintain high service quality, meet service level agreements (SLAs), and resolve any escalated shipment issues promptly.
The ideal candidate for this supervisory role will bring a robust background in international air freight processes coupled with a continuous improvement mindset. Responsibilities include supervising inbound and outbound air freight operations to ensure timely delivery and compliance with airline, TSA, IATA, and customs requirements. The supervisor will monitor important operational metrics including transit times, service levels, cost control, and shipment accuracy to optimize the overall air freight process. They will also be responsible for approving critical air freight documentation such as MAWB/HAWB, commercial invoices, packing lists, and export filings.
This position also involves mentoring and developing a team of air freight coordinators, promoting a culture of accountability, accuracy, and operational discipline. The supervisor will be a pivotal escalation point for any customer-facing issues or shipment delays, facilitating timely and effective resolutions that align with the company’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. Additionally, the role requires evaluating pricing, routing, and capacity decisions in collaboration with sales and network teams, identifying process gaps, and initiating continuous improvement projects.
The role demands proficiency with freight forwarding systems and transportation management platforms, with CargoWise experience highly favored. Extensive knowledge of international trade compliance, Incoterms, and air freight documentation is essential. Strong organizational and time management skills are critical due to the high-volume nature of the work environment, as is the ability to maintain professional communication across global teams and customers. Proficiency in common office technologies, including Microsoft Office 365 and web conferencing tools, is required. The position is based onsite with potential travel for meetings and events related to business operations.
Overall, this is an excellent opportunity for experienced logistics professionals who are passionate about air freight operations and leadership. It offers a chance to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment while making a significant impact on international supply chain efficiency and customer service excellence.
