Job Description

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is recognized as one of the most progressive and innovative providers of solid waste and recycling services across the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, also operating a rail-served landfill in Ohio. Since its founding in 1998, the company has experienced significant growth, particularly through strategic acquisitions, many of which involved family-owned businesses that remain integral parts of the company team today. IWS uniquely combines the strengths and resources of a large corporation with the care, values, and close-knit community spirit characteristic of a family-run business. The company is steadfastly committed to delivering high-quality waste, recycling, and environmental services while prioritizing safety for its employees, customers, and surrounding communities. Catering to a diverse clientele spanning industrial, medical, and commercial/residential sectors, IWS is a pivotal player in fostering sustainable waste management solutions throughout its service regions.

The role of Site Supervisor at Interstate Waste Services is a vital position responsible for overseeing post-collection activities in multiple lines of business including operations, maintenance, administration, and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). This full-time role plays a key part in ensuring operational excellence by supervising laborers, heavy equipment operators, material inspectors, and maintenance staff. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Site Supervisor collaborates on tactical initiatives geared toward enhancing functional efficiency and meeting budget targets. One of the central priorities of this position is to champion adherence to accident prevention protocols and to lead the workforce in maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, operational, regulatory, accounting, and ethical standards. This leadership role involves driving the execution and delivery of three core pillars: Safety, Customer Experience, and Efficiency, while fostering a proactive and engaging work culture.

In the safety domain, the Site Supervisor provides strong leadership by steering safety goals, actively identifying and addressing hazards, and partnering with the maintenance department to ensure that all equipment is safe and compliant. This role demands a hands-on approach to eliminate unsafe conditions, implement robust accident prevention programs, and motivate employees to actively participate in safety culture through personal commitment and outreach. Ensuring the health and safety of all employees in the facility is paramount, making this role essential for sustaining a safe and productive work environment.

Efficiency responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day facility operations to guarantee prompt customer service with minimal wait times, resolving unexpected incidents such as equipment breakdowns with timely communication, and interacting with employees to swiftly address operational challenges. The Site Supervisor also manages inbound and outbound scale activities, supervises scale operators and material inspectors, prepares daily outbound material schedules, and continuously evaluates performance metrics to meet or exceed operational goals. This role is vital in maintaining optimal staffing levels, scheduling, overtime allocation, coaching, training, and evaluating employee performance, all contributing to operational success.

Finally, the Site Supervisor drives employee engagement by fostering a collaborative and communicative team environment, encouraging teamwork and participation, and developing employee talents. They work closely with team members to understand their career goals and provide coaching for advancement within the company. This commitment ensures that the workforce remains motivated, skilled, and aligned with the company’s values and objectives.

With an attractive salary range from USD $70,000 to $90,000 per year, Interstate Waste Services offers a rewarding career opportunity for those seeking to grow within an innovative, safety-focused, and employee-centered organization. This position also requires bilingual skills, a valid driver’s license, proficiency in Microsoft Office, extensive knowledge of OSHA safety regulations, and proven communication and leadership abilities, combining to make it a fulfilling and impactful role within the waste management industry.
