The role of Operations Supervisor at Mansfield Service Partners is a critical leadership position situated at the Dayton, OH terminal. This position is responsible for assisting the Terminal Manager in overseeing daily operations and driving the long-term success of key departments including LTL, FTL, and the tank/fleet divisions. The Operations Supervisor acts as a working manager, directly involved with driver management, preventive maintenance coordination, and training initiatives for new drivers. This role requires a hands-on approach in managing fleet and driver-related activities to ensure timely and safe delivery of services.

Key responsibilities include ensuring that operational goals are met, developing strategies to maintain high team performance, and strictly adhering to safety protocols to promote a clean and hazard-free work environment. The supervisor will handle scheduling, staffing, and time attendance to uphold excellent customer service standards while effectively managing driver and fleet maintenance issues. Support for maintenance activities is provided in collaboration with the regional Fleet Manager, ensuring preventative programs are executed appropriately. The supervisor is accountable for employee lifecycle management encompassing hiring, training, performance management, coaching, and disciplinary actions.

Furthermore, overseeing Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance and reporting related to fleet and driver qualifications is integral to the role. The supervisor also coordinates the safe delivery and repair of company assets such as fuel tanks and accessories. A unique aspect of this position is the requirement to operate a HazMat commercial motor vehicle regularly, accounting for 10 to 50 percent of the workload, to address fluctuations in driver staffing.

Beyond operational duties, the Operations Supervisor plays a significant role in coaching and mentoring. This involves developing hiring strategies to secure top talent, designing effective training for new drivers, and implementing coaching plans to help staff meet or exceed performance goals. Regular performance reviews, positive reinforcement, and accountability practices are leveraged to cultivate a motivated and productive team. Addressing performance issues proactively and constructively is essential to maintaining a high-functioning work environment. This role demands strong communication skills, strategic thinking, and a dedicated focus on safety and operational excellence in a fast-paced logistics setting.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related work experience preferred
  • Valid Class B CDL (Class A preferred) with HazMat and Tanker endorsement (X) a plus
  • Minimum 1 year experience driving a Class A commercial vehicle a plus
  • At least three (3) years of prior experience in freight or logistics required
  • Three (3) or more years of leadership experience preferred
  • Petroleum experience preferred
  • Dispatch experience preferred
  • Driver management experience preferred
  • Intermediate to expert Excel proficiency required

Job Duties

  • Ensure that goals and objectives are met for the department
  • Assist in developing a clear strategy to keep team members focused on high performance throughout the year
  • Operate in a manner that is consistent with safe operations and complies with safety rules, promoting clean and safe working conditions
  • Implement a strategy and improve key processes used every day
  • Coordinate team member scheduling, staffing, and time attendance approvals to ensure excellent customer service and response is achieved
  • Manage and coordinate daily fleet and driver related issues to ensure loads are delivered timely
  • Support maintenance activities of fleet and automotive equipment as needed with the regional Fleet Manager
  • coordinate preventative maintenance programs
  • Employee life-cycle responsibility, to include hiring, training, coaching, disciplining and supervising all direct reports
  • Oversee DOT compliance and reporting as it relates to fleet and driver qualifications
  • Coordinate the safe delivery of company assets (fuel tanks/accessories) to our customers and all service-related repairs to these assets
  • This role requires the ability and willingness to operate a HazMat CMV regularly (10-50 percent of annual workload) to cover ebbs and flows of driver staffing
  • Develop hiring skills and strategies to hire top quality talent to drive the success of the operations now and in the future
  • Develop expertise and training skills and strategies to expertly train new drivers
  • Develop a coaching strategy for staff to achieve or exceed goals and objectives
  • Regularly review performance with staff
  • Help staff focus on what is within their control to achieve success
  • Celebrate success
  • Quickly address performance issues in a constructive manner
