UMD Dining Services plays an essential role in campus life, providing a wide variety of high-quality and diverse dining options aimed to meet the needs and preferences of the university community. The operations include Superior Dining, the all-you-care-to-eat residential dining center, and a vibrant Food Court featuring five unique food concepts such as Subs & Wraps, Burgers, Pizza, Burritos, and Grab & Go. Additionally, the Dining Services manage Northern Shores Coffee Shop, two dining kiosks, a full-service restaurant, and catering services for campus events. The department emphasizes sustainability, quality, and excellent service to enhance the campus dining experience.
This particular role is a 10-month position within UMD Dining Services categorized as an essential employee role. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering an exceptional dining experience by upholding standards in food quality, sanitation, and service. Responsibilities include overseeing daily staffing operations, coordinating product orders, managing inventory, and promoting guest engagement through coaching and training team members. The role demands a high level of organizational skill, creativity in problem-solving, effective communication, and commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive work environment. The position requires attendance and adaptability during reduced or closed operations (such as inclement weather or power outages), ensuring consistent service delivery. Job Requirements
- Ba/bs plus at least four years of experience, or combination of related education and experience to equal at least 8 years
- able to work a 10-month position
- availability to report during reduced or closed operations
- ability to maintain high standards of food quality, sanitation, and service
- capacity to manage complex operational processes under high volume
- strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- commitment to promoting a safe work environment
- capability to train and mentor staff
Job Qualifications
- Ba/bs plus at least four years of experience, or combination of related education and experience to equal at least 8 years
- 3 years in supervisory or management role related to food service or guest experience
- proficient in food management software such as ordering and inventory management
- proficient in Google Suite including docs and sheets
- proficient in verbal communication, written communication, and accurate record keeping
- proficient at multitasking while organizing, planning, and prioritizing work
- ability to think creatively and critically
- comfortable and proficient coaching team members and engaging with guests
Job Duties
- Ensure a high-quality dining experience for the campus community by upholding standards in food quality, sanitation, and service
- coordinate daily staffing for high-volume, complex operational processes
- oversee guest experience and uphold standards through coaching and training
- observe and report guest trends to improve team performance
- oversee inventory levels and manage product orders with accuracy and timeliness
- train and mentor team to meet objectives, fostering skill development to strengthen both individual performance and team cohesion
- innovate and refine processes and operational efficiencies to elevate guest experience
