Job Description

AvalonBay Communities stands as a premier leader in the apartment living industry, dedicated to crafting a better way to live for its residents and associates alike. Established with a core purpose of enhancing life, AvalonBay is more than just a property management company — we are a community-focused organization that offers residents exceptional living experiences that combine comfort, style, and luxury. Our commitment extends beyond properties to the people who live and work within them, fostering a positive, engaging environment that supports innovation, growth, and sustainability. As a recognized industry pioneer, AvalonBay manages numerous communities across the United States, continuously striving to raise the standards of apartment living through exceptional service, modern amenities, and vibrant community engagement.

The role of Community Manager at AvalonBay Communities is a pivotal leadership position charged with overseeing all operations for one or multiple apartment communities to ensure an outstanding living experience for residents. This full-time position demands not only a passion for property management but also a strategic vision to elevate community standards through innovation, excellent customer service, and efficient operational management. The Community Manager takes charge of a multifaceted role, including leasing, resident relations, financial management, and collaboration with maintenance teams, to ensure goals around resident satisfaction, fiscal responsibility, and community engagement are consistently met.

As a community leader, the Manager fosters positive resident relationships, promptly addresses and resolves issues, and enforces lease agreements with integrity and fairness. The role also involves orchestrating resident events and initiatives that cultivate a strong sense of community. Budget management is a critical responsibility, encompassing revenue oversight, expense control, and capital improvements to maintain and enhance property value and resident experience. The position requires utilizing data and performance reports effectively to drive decisions that sustain high customer service standards, maximize revenue, and reduce costs.

This leadership role also involves mentoring and coaching associate teams — empowering and developing staff to deliver superior performance and uphold AvalonBay’s core values: A Commitment to Integrity, A Spirit of Caring, and A Focus on Continuous Improvement. The Community Manager plays a crucial role in creating a thriving, supportive environment that promotes career growth and associates’ well-being.

The ideal candidate will have significant expertise in multi-family or related property management, with a minimum of five years’ experience, and proven skills in managing community operations including financials, customer service, marketing, negotiation, and crisis management. Strong people management experience is essential, alongside the ability to handle contracts with third-party vendors and resolve complex resident concerns effectively. Educationally, a high school diploma or GED is required, with a preference for candidates holding a bachelor’s degree.

AvalonBay offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with company match, paid vacation and holidays, tuition reimbursement, and an employee stock purchase plan, fostering a supportive workplace culture that values achievements and growth. Additionally, associates benefit from generous discounts on apartment homes and access to a robust recognition program.*

At AvalonBay Communities, you are not just joining a company — you are becoming part of a community with a bold mission to redefine apartment living standards. We believe in diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, ensuring a workplace that respects and values all voices. If you are ready to lead a dynamic leasing team and make a lasting impact in the property management industry, AvalonBay welcomes you to join us on this exciting journey.
