Job Description

Transluce is a fast-moving research lab dedicated to building the public technology stack for understanding and debugging artificial intelligence (AI) systems. As a non-profit organization, Transluce is committed to steering the development of AI for the public good by creating world-class, AI-backed analysis tools that help set industry standards for evaluation. The lab operates at the cutting edge of AI research and technology, ensuring transparency, accountability, and safety in AI deployments worldwide. Their work is vital in helping organizations, policymakers, and researchers understand complex AI behaviors, improve safety, and foster innovation that benefits society as a whole.

The company culture at Transluce embraces collaboration, innovation, and a shared mission-driven mindset. Located in San Francisco, Transluce values a dynamic and inclusive workplace where team members bring their unique expertise and passion for AI safety and ethics. As the organization scales from 15 to over 30 employees, the need for robust operational systems and processes has become critical.

The role of Operations Generalist at Transluce is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and detail-oriented professional to join the team and manage core operational functions. Reporting directly to the Chief of Staff, the Operations Generalist will have a high level of autonomy and responsibility to maintain and improve key processes related to people operations, finance, compliance, and internal systems. This position is pivotal in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations as the company grows rapidly.

The Operations Generalist will run end-to-end processes in hiring coordination, onboarding and offboarding employees, and administering benefits, ensuring a seamless employee experience. They will also oversee essential financial and compliance workflows, such as expense management, vendor relationships, invoicing, and SOC 2 compliance. Additionally, the role involves managing existing internal tools like Google Workspace and Slack while expanding the toolkit to solve operational pain points and improve efficiency.

Key to success in this role is the ability to proactively identify operational risks and opportunity areas. The Operations Generalist will continuously evaluate and enhance operational systems to scale the lab's processes effectively. Occasionally, the role may include supporting larger projects like event planning and office management.

This position is ideal for someone with at least two years of experience in operations, ideally within startups, technology, finance, or consulting sectors. The candidate should be reliable, self-directed, highly conscientious, and able to manage multiple workstreams with strong prioritization skills. Communication skills must be excellent, with the ability to convey information clearly in both written and verbal formats while exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality.

Those who have a genuine interest in AI safety and the mission of Transluce will find this role especially rewarding. The company encourages candidates who thrive in building scalable systems while also being comfortable deploying minimal solutions to solve new problems rapidly. The role is based in San Francisco with a preference for in-person collaboration, though they are open to sponsoring international visas.

The pay range for this full-time, in-person position is $110,000 to $160,000 per year, reflecting the critical impact and responsibilities of the Operations Generalist. Benefits include 401(k) and matching contributions, dental and health insurance, flexible schedules, paid time off, parental leave, professional development assistance, retirement plans, and vision insurance, providing a comprehensive support package for the employee's well-being and growth.
