The role of Operations Dock Supervisor at Forward Air is a pivotal leadership position responsible for overseeing the dock operations to ensure the efficient and safe handling of freight. This position is essential for maintaining smooth, timely, and damage-free shipping and receiving activities. The supervisor will manage dockworkers, drivers, and support personnel, coordinating workflow to meet schedules and operational goals. This role requires a proactive leader who can provide training, performance feedback, and handle disciplinary actions when necessary. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cargo operations and a proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. With a schedule running from Saturday through Wednesday, from 3:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and an annual salary range between $65,000 and $85,000, this position offers a competitive compensation package within a supportive work culture.

As an Operations Dock Supervisor, you will be responsible for enforcing all Forward Air approved procedures, standards, and specifications to ensure smooth dock operations. This includes assigning tasks in accordance with loading and unloading schedules, maintaining facility and equipment conditions, implementing load plans, and managing the dispatch and safety oversight of line haul drivers. You will also play a key role in customer service by handling calls related to service issues and special requests. The position requires a hands-on approach, including assisting with loading and unloading when needed, performing security checks, and ensuring compliance with hazardous materials handling protocols as dictated by Department of Transportation regulations.

This role demands a combination of strong leadership, operational expertise, and excellent communication skills. Job Requirements

Must have two (2) or more years of supervisory experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Prior air freight experience is required
Must be flexible to work weekends and nights
Forklift and general freight handling experience
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of operations
Knowledge of proper freight handling techniques
Knowledge of Hazardous Materials handling

Prior air freight experience is required
International/import experience is a plus

Job Duties

Ensure all work is performed according to Forward Air approved procedures, standards, and specifications for dock operations
Directly supervise all activities of dockworkers and support personnel engaged in loading and unloading trucks and trailers
Assign job tasks to workers according to unloading and loading schedules
Provide guidance to subordinates on goals and objectives on a weekly basis
Field customer calls on service issues, special service requests, rates and new accounts
Ensure proper maintenance of facility, forklift equipment, trailers and handling supplies
Execute appropriate load plans and proper load balance to ensure safe vehicle operation
Coordinate work assignments, monitor performance, and provide training on relevant job duties
Maintain facility appearance, condition and security
Maintain record of those responsible for trailer seal verifications
Perform security checks when facility is dark or during holiday breaks
Perform facility inspections
Assist in the loading and unloading of trailers
Foster safe handling, loading, unloading, and storage of Hazardous Materials as provided by the Department of Transportation
Manage the dispatch of over the road line haul drivers, as well as all safety aspects both in the building and on the road
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds
Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to ninety (90) pounds
