Job Description

Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) is one of the prominent educational institutions committed to providing quality education and essential services to students within the Oklahoma City area. The district emphasizes student success through a comprehensive range of academic programs, student support services, and community engagement initiatives. Among its vital services is the School Nutrition Services (SNS) Department, which ensures that all students receive nutritious, high-quality meals necessary for their health and academic readiness. The department aligns itself with regulatory standards set forth by various agencies, including the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH), while also strictly following federal, state, and local laws.

The Operations Coordinator role within the School Nutrition Services Department is a critical position responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of the SNS department. This full-time exempt position is based at the OKCPS Operations Center and plays a key role in overseeing operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and quality meal production across multiple school sites. With a salary classification of 806 where compensation is determined based on experience, this role demands a professional who can successfully manage complex processes involving food service management, staff supervision, and adherence to health and safety regulations.

The Operations Coordinator is charged with supervising and supporting between 60 and 100 staff members distributed across 12 to 18 different school locations. This oversight includes direct management of site-level supervisors and ensuring that all operations meet established standards. A strong emphasis is placed on promoting student learning by guaranteeing access to safe, nutritious meals that encourage student health and academic preparedness. The coordinator ensures that meal times provide students with sufficient seated time, monitors compliance with district wellness policies, and engages in menu planning and taste testing to improve meal participation and quality.

Additionally, the role involves implementation and monitoring of quality assurance plans, including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures designed to maintain the highest levels of food safety. The coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all school nutrition personnel meet USDA professional standards. Talent management is a significant aspect of the role, including recruitment, training, supervision, performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions. The position fosters a culture of accountability, safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement among department members, which directly impacts the effectiveness and morale of staff.

This position requires excellent collaboration skills to maintain positive relationships with school leaders, staff, parents, community members, vendors, and regulatory agencies. The coordinator plays an essential part in marketing and outreach efforts to boost meal participation and community engagement. Leadership exhibited in this role aligns with district values, emphasizing equity and effective service delivery.

From a system and administrative standpoint, the Operations Coordinator ensures compliance with all child nutrition program regulations, assists in setting departmental financial goals and objectives, oversees revenue accounting and forecasting, and implements management systems for accurate recordkeeping and performance measurement. The role also involves closely monitoring food and supply operations, enforcing sanitation and food safety standards, and managing kitchen equipment maintenance and inventory.

The position is designated as safety sensitive, requiring pre-employment drug screening in compliance with Oklahoma State regulations. It demands physical capabilities such as the ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, enter data accurately, and manage physical tasks including lifting up to 25 pounds.
