As a vital part of the community, Kaleideum also focuses on inclusivity and ensuring a safe environment for all guests.
The part-time Operations and Events Specialist will report to the Director of Operations and Special Events, working up to 29 hours per week with a flexible schedule including weekends. The pay rate is $12 per hour. This role is essential to the daily functioning and overall guest experience at the museum. Responsibilities include supporting daily museum operations, maintaining cleanliness and presentation of galleries and public spaces, and assisting with the execution of birthday parties as well as large-scale events. The position requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, working collaboratively with a diverse team.
This hands-on position involves executing opening and closing procedures, setting up outdoor spaces like Cam's Coffee area and patio furniture, supporting group and camp arrivals, and resetting program rooms and exhibits after use. The specialist also performs facility upkeep tasks, including weekly cleaning and maintenance projects such as high dusting, light wall repairs, and painting. Event support duties include preparing event spaces, staging tables and chairs, handling décor setup and tear-down, supporting vendor communications, and executing technology checklists related to digital dome events.
Maintaining a clean and welcoming exterior environment is a crucial part of this role, including picking up trash, caring for flower pots, garden beds, and assisting with landscaping. The ideal candidate has a passion for the museum's mission, pays strong attention to detail, and is capable of handling physical tasks like lifting, moving furniture, and climbing stairs. Prior experience in hospitality, event support, operations, or facilities management is preferred, along with basic building, landscaping, or repair skills. The role requires excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Kaleideum values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer, committed to a non-discriminatory work environment. All applicants must pass a drug test and a criminal background check as condition of employment. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to contribute to a community-focused institution with opportunities for growth and meaningful work in a vibrant, interactive educational setting.
