Job Description

Zen Educate is an innovative educational staffing organization dedicated to connecting schools with passionate, high-quality educators through a seamless and transparent hiring process. As a trusted partner to public and charter schools, Zen Educate helps schools find the right teaching staff to meet their needs while assisting educators in discovering roles that align with their skills, preferences, and long-term career goals. The company’s mission centers on improving educational outcomes for students by supporting the educators who contribute to their success through smarter matching, fairer pay, and ongoing professional support. Zen Educate is focused on fostering a sustainable and rewarding teaching experience that benefits both schools and educators alike.

This current opening is for substitute teachers who will support students in inclusive and special education classrooms throughout the school year, not just during the summer. These positions provide an excellent opportunity to build invaluable classroom experience by working in a single school building and rotating through multiple classrooms, allowing for consistency and meaningful relationships with students and staff. The role involves maintaining a structured learning environment, following established lesson plans, ensuring classroom safety, and using diverse instructional methods to enhance student learning. This is a full-time, in-person position with shifts typically scheduled Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 3:00 or 4:30 pm, without weekend requirements.

Candidates will receive compensation ranging from $19.50 to $21.50 per hour, paid weekly. Additional benefits include paid sick leave and eligibility to participate in a 401K retirement plan, subject to certain criteria. The ideal candidate will hold or be interested in obtaining a Michigan Substitute Teaching Permit and have at least an associate's degree. Proficiency in English and legal work authorization in the United States are also required. Physical demands require comfort with being on feet for extended periods and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds, including assisting students with various physical needs. The selection process emphasizes safety, professionalism, and a commitment to fostering a positive educational environment.

Substitute teachers play a critical role in sustaining and advancing student learning in classrooms where regular teachers might be temporarily absent. Working through Zen Educate allows individuals to develop their teaching practice in a dynamic setting, gain diverse classroom exposure, and contribute positively to student growth and success. Interested educators are encouraged to apply promptly as recruitment is active for the 2026/2027 school year, with roles being filled on a first-come, first-served basis to secure positions before the start of the academic year. This is a remarkable opportunity for those dedicated to making a difference in education and seeking stable, year-round teaching assignments.
