Job Description

Journey of Faith is a well-established and vibrant church community with a rich history spanning over a century in the South Bay area. Founded in 1911 by a small group of 30 families, Journey of Faith has grown into a thriving congregation that serves over 3,000 people every Sunday. The church is rooted in practical Bible teaching and a strong commitment to community service, especially in the beach cities of the South Bay. In 1957, the church acquired a significant property in Manhattan Beach, affectionately known as "four acres of faith." Demonstrating continuous growth and vision, Journey of Faith recently expanded by opening a second campus in the neighboring city of Torrance, reinforcing its dedication to raising up the next generation of Jesus followers.

The church operates with a clear mission statement: To bring glory to God by loving God, loving people, and making disciples. This mission-driven approach influences all aspects of its activities and community engagements. Journey of Faith is a dynamic church on a mission, following God's call and direction for the future. The culture within the church community emphasizes service, faith, and mutual support, fostering an environment where team members can thrive professionally and spiritually.

The On Call Facilities Crew position plays a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and readiness of the church and school campuses associated with Journey of Faith. This part-time, hourly, non-exempt role reports directly to the Facilities Director and Evening Facilities Supervisor, reflecting its collaborative nature within the church’s operational team. The primary responsibility of the On Call Facilities Crew is to ensure that various campus spaces—including rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and general public areas—are kept clean, orderly, and well-stocked with necessary supplies. Such maintenance is vital in supporting the smooth operation of church and school events, activities, and weekly services.

In addition to routine cleaning duties, the role requires preparing rooms and areas on campus for special events and activities, as well as cleaning up afterward to ensure the facilities are ready for Sunday morning services. This includes tasks such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, polishing mirrors, cleaning windows and blinds, and restocking supplies like toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. The role demands physical stamina, as lifting heavy equipment like vacuums and trash cans and moving tables and chairs are essential parts of the job.

This position values qualities such as reliability, a strong work ethic, teamwork, and respectful interaction with both staff and churchgoers. The successful candidate will be someone who can clean efficiently while encouraging their teammates and fostering supportive relationships within the crew. Trustworthiness is also paramount, especially regarding securing the campus by locking up facilities at the end of the workday or event.

Journey of Faith values individuals who are committed to its ideals of service and community, making this role an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to contribute meaningfully to a faith-based organization while engaging in practical, impactful work. The job description also notes that assigned duties may expand or adjust as needed, emphasizing the importance of flexibility and a willingness to perform additional related tasks for the benefit of the church community.
