Job Description

The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. With the support of 1.3 million volunteers and dedicated employees, the organization is committed to raising the bar every day in the fight against cancer, focusing on research, education, advocacy, and patient services. The American Cancer Society serves diverse communities by leveraging the varied backgrounds and experiences of its workforce, ensuring that its lifesaving mission is inclusive and effective for everyone affected by cancer.

At the heart of the American Cancer Society's efforts is the Hope Lodge facility in Boston, MA, where the organization provides a comforting home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers during treatment. The Hope Lodge offers free lodging and support services to those in need, emphasizing a warm, safe, and supportive environment.

The Concierge role at Hope Lodge is essential to the guest experience. Serving as the first point of contact, the Concierge manages front desk operations and ensures that every guest receives a welcoming and secure experience. This role is particularly focused on managing check-in and check-out processes, responding to inquiries and emergencies, coordinating transportation, and maintaining safety protocols within the facility. The Concierge must be adaptable, capable of multitasking independently, and highly proficient in customer service to meet the needs of guests during their stay.

This position is a part-time, on-call role covering overnight shifts, which are critical to maintaining the lodge's 24/7 availability. The pay rate is $22.29 per hour, with an additional 20% shift differential paid for overnight hours between 12:00 am and 5:30 am, recognizing the unique demands and responsibilities of night shifts.

The role requires a minimum of one year of customer service experience and a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional training or education in hospitality management or customer service is advantageous. Candidates must be skilled in communication, able to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and proficient in using Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems.

Physical demands include prolonged periods of standing and walking, occasional lifting of luggage or packages, and the endurance necessary to support guests in a fast-paced environment. This ensures that all guests receive timely and attentive care, enhancing their overall experience at the lodge.

Working with the American Cancer Society offers more than just a job; it offers a sense of fulfillment through a meaningful mission. Employees benefit from a generous paid time off policy, medical and dental insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, and professional development opportunities that foster growth and skill enhancement.

Overall, the Concierge at Hope Lodge plays a vital role in supporting the American Cancer Society's mission to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families, providing comfort and support at a challenging time in their lives. This position is ideal for individuals seeking to contribute to a purposeful cause within a supportive and dynamic work environment.
