Job Description
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. With its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, the society supports cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services throughout the United States. In Boston, Massachusetts, the ACS operates the Hope Lodge facility, which provides a home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers who must travel for treatment. The Hope Lodge program aims to offer comfortable, safe, and supportive lodging to empower patients during their challenging journeys.
The American Cancer Society embodies a culture of diversity and inclusion, driven by employees and over 1.3 million volunteers who channel their talents toward lifesaving missions every day. The organizational environment promotes empowerment, collaboration, and dedication to service, fostering personal and professional growth. Being part of the ACS team means answering a calling to make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer by supporting individuals and communities affected by this disease.
The part-time Concierge position at the Hope Lodge facility in Boston, MA, is a critical role that serves as the initial point of contact for guests. This role involves managing the front desk operations and ensuring that all guests feel welcomed, safe, and supported throughout their stay. As the face of the Hope Lodge, the Concierge plays an essential role in delivering exceptional customer service and addressing guest needs promptly and compassionately.
This position is designed to offer flexibility, with shifts scheduled on an on-call basis typically amounting to fewer than 20 hours per week. The pay rate for this role is $22.29 per hour. The Concierge's responsibilities include greeting guests upon arrival, handling check-in and check-out procedures efficiently, providing detailed information about the lodge's amenities and local community resources, and coordinating transportation services including the EMPOWER Program.
Moreover, the Concierge is expected to respond to guest inquiries, requests, concerns, and emergencies with professionalism and empathy. Maintaining an organized front desk area, keeping accurate guest records, and monitoring lobby security are significant parts of the daily duties. Implementing safety protocols ensures the well-being of all guests and staff, making this role vital to the operations and atmosphere of the Hope Lodge.
The ideal candidate for this position will have at least one year of customer service experience, preferably in hospitality or guest services. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, while additional education or training in hospitality management or customer service is considered a plus. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to multitask and work independently, proficiency with Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems, as well as excellent problem-solving capabilities are essential.
Given the nature of Hope Lodge and its fast-paced environment, the role requires physical endurance, including periods of standing and walking, occasional lifting of luggage or packages, and assisting guests actively throughout the day. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed further highlights the importance of adaptability in this position.
Working with the American Cancer Society means gaining access to a range of generous benefits such as paid time off, medical, dental, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and opportunities for professional development. The organization is committed to equal opportunity employment, nurturing a workplace that values diversity and inclusion. By joining the American Cancer Society as a part-time Concierge at Hope Lodge in Boston, you will be part of a meaningful mission, improving the lives of cancer patients and their families while growing your own skills and experience.
