Job Description

The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. With over 1.3 million volunteers alongside dedicated employees, the American Cancer Society strives to improve lives by providing education, support, advocacy, and research to fight cancer. This organization is deeply rooted in its mission to end cancer for everyone and fosters an inclusive culture that welcomes diverse backgrounds and experiences to better serve the communities it supports. Known for its compassionate approach and unwavering commitment, the American Cancer Society not only aids those affected by cancer but also engages in research and prevention efforts to reduce the impact of this disease on society as a whole. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, this particular role offers part-time employment and pays $19.54 per hour.

The Concierge role at the American Cancer Society serves as a critical frontline position, acting as the first point of contact for guests arriving at the lodge. This position requires managing all front desk operations while ensuring that every visitor experiences a warm, safe, and supportive environment. Responsibilities extend beyond greeting guests to managing the check-in and check-out processes efficiently and professionally. The Concierge also provides information about the lodge’s amenities and available community resources, assisting guests with any questions or concerns they may have. The role involves coordinating transportation and scheduling through the EMPOWER Program services, responding promptly to guest requests, concerns, or emergencies, and maintaining comprehensive and accurate guest records. Additionally, the Concierge routinely monitors lobby security and implements necessary safety protocols to ensure a safe environment for guests and staff alike.

This position demands strong communication and interpersonal skills as it involves interaction with a diverse range of guests and volunteers. The Concierge should be capable of working independently while multitasking in a fast-paced setting, proficient in Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems. Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills are essential to effectively address any issues that arise. Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours is also required. Minimal travel is expected, and the physical demands include extended periods of standing and walking as well as occasional lifting and manual tasks such as handling luggage or opening doors for guests. Through this role, employees directly contribute to the supportive and welcoming atmosphere that the American Cancer Society prides itself on fostering for all guests and visitors. This part-time position provides an opportunity to be part of an organization committed to lifesaving work and community impact.
