Job Description

The American Cancer Society is a nationwide voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. The organization relies on the efforts of its employees and more than 1.3 million volunteers to raise awareness, fund research, and provide support to those affected by cancer. As a reputable nonprofit organization, the American Cancer Society fosters an inclusive culture made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences to serve communities effectively and compassionately. This diversity underscores the organization's commitment to addressing cancer's impact on people from all walks of life.

The American Cancer Society is actively seeking a part-time Concierge to join the team at its Hope Lodge facility in Iowa City. This role serves as the first point of contact for guests who stay at Hope Lodge, a facility that provides convenient and comfortable accommodation for cancer patients and their caregivers. The Concierge is responsible for managing front desk operations, greeting guests, handling check-in and check-out procedures, and ensuring a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment. The position requires excellent interpersonal skills, a customer-oriented attitude, and the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

This part-time position offers flexible shifts based on business needs, typically less than 20 hours per week, with a competitive pay rate of 18.59 dollars per hour. However, it does not include eligibility for benefits. The Concierge will also provide information about lodge amenities and local community resources, coordinate transportation and EMPOWER Program services and schedules, respond to guest requests, concerns, and emergencies, maintain organized front desk areas, and monitor lobby security while implementing safety protocols.

The role demands physical endurance due to extended periods of standing and walking and occasional manual tasks like moving luggage or opening doors for guests. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems is beneficial, as is previous experience in hospitality or guest services. The American Cancer Society promotes and supports employee development and well-being through generous paid time off, medical, dental, retirement benefits, wellness programs, and professional development opportunities, though these particular benefits are not applicable to this role. This position invites candidates who are passionate about customer service and committed to making a positive impact on guests’ experiences during their stay at Hope Lodge.
