The position of Banquet Bartender at Sonesta International Hotels offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the guest experience within banquet and catering functions. This role is centered on preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages efficiently and professionally, adhering to established standards and responsible alcohol service protocols. The role involves setting up banquet bars completely with all necessary supplies such as liquor, mixes, ice, garnishes, glassware, and more. Attention to detail is critical, including inventorying unused liquor and beverages and performing necessary pre- and post-shift sidework to maintain smooth operations. The Banquet Bartender is expected to greet guests warmly, promote specialty drinks, and apply up-selling techniques to maximize sales while ensuring the products served are consistent in quality.

A vital aspect of the role is monitoring guest behavior and alcohol consumption to promote a safe and responsible serving environment, including verifying the age of guests when necessary. The position requires strong adherence to established procedures to secure liquor and monetary transactions, manage supply replenishment promptly, and minimize waste effectively. The Bartender will also complete relevant paperwork such as consumption and incident reports when required. Job Requirements

  • Must meet state legal age requirements
  • ability to carry or lift up to 50 pounds
  • ability to move about bar, lounge and kitchen
  • ability to bend, stoop, kneel
  • strong communication skills for interacting with guests, servers, and supervisors
  • reading and writing abilities for order taking and paperwork
  • basic math skills for handling cash and credit
  • alcohol awareness certification and/or valid food service permit or health/food handler card as required
  • availability to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills
  • specialized knowledge of bartending, mixing drinks, liquor brands, beer, wine, champagne, non-alcoholic beverages, glassware, preparation methods and garnishments
  • formal bartending training preferred
  • must meet state legal age requirements
  • fluent English
  • alcohol awareness certification or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state agency

Job Duties

  • Set up banquet bar including all liquor, mixes, ice, garnishes, glassware and supplies
  • inventory unused liquor and beverages
  • perform pre- and post-shift sidework such as setting up cart and emptying ice-bins
  • prepare and serve beverages promptly and professionally according to established standards and responsible alcohol service
  • greet guests pleasantly and promote house drinks using up-selling skills
  • adhere to pouring standards and drink recipes to ensure consistency and control costs
  • monitor guest behavior and alcohol consumption, check identification when necessary
  • follow procedures to secure liquor, financial transactions, replenish supplies timely, and minimize waste
  • complete required paperwork such as consumption and incident reports
  • perform other duties as assigned
