Job Description
The Ojai Valley Inn & Spa is a renowned luxury resort located in the scenic Ojai Valley, California. This esteemed establishment is recognized for its exceptional hospitality, stunning surroundings, world-class amenities, and a commitment to delivering memorable guest experiences. At Ojai Valley Inn & Spa, the emphasis is on personalized service, attention to detail, and an inviting atmosphere that caters to guests seeking both relaxation and refinement. The resort offers a diverse array of dining options, recreational activities, spa treatments, and event hosting services, making it a top choice for travelers from around the world. Known for its rich history and connection to the cultural essence of Southern California, the resort maintains a reputation for excellence and strives to continuously elevate the guest journey through its staff and operational standards.
The role of Host/Hostess at The Ojai Valley Inn & Spa is pivotal to maintaining the high standards of guest service and overall atmosphere within the resort’s dining and reception areas. This position is ideal for individuals with a positive, outgoing personality who enjoy engaging with guests and ensuring their satisfaction from the moment they arrive until they depart. The Host/Hostess is responsible not only for greeting and seating guests but also for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the host stand and entrance area. Given the high guest interaction, this role carries significant responsibility in shaping the initial and lasting impressions of visitors, contributing directly to the resort’s goal of exceeding guest expectations.
The position requires an individual with a minimum of two years’ experience in hosting, preferably within the hotel or upscale food and beverage industry, who possesses a basic understanding of food and beverage preparation, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette. Physical stamina is necessary as the Host/Hostess will frequently be on their feet during shifts ranging six to eight hours and be capable of lifting weights between 15 to 45 pounds. Professional appearance and flexibility in scheduling, including the ability to work weekends and holidays, are essential. The Host/Hostess must be well-versed in the resort’s unique culture, operational philosophy, and exceptional service standards outlined in the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa’s service manual.
In addition to the standard greet-and-seat duties, this role involves proactive guest engagement, anticipating needs, managing reservations, handling guest concerns diplomatically, and contributing to the smooth operation of the dining environment. The Host/Hostess will collaborate closely with restaurant servers, management, and other hotel departments to foster a team-oriented work climate, uphold safety standards, and ensure the efficient flow of guests through the restaurant seating areas. Knowledge of technology platforms such as OpenTable and guest relations training will be advantageous. Moreover, maintaining discretion and confidentiality concerning guest information is paramount.
This role offers a part-time schedule mainly focused on weekends, making it suitable for candidates seeking flexible employment within a prestigious resort setting. The position demands exemplary communication skills, a strong commitment to service excellence, and a willingness to represent the resort’s brand with integrity and enthusiasm at all times. Working as a Host/Hostess at The Ojai Valley Inn & Spa provides a unique opportunity to join a leading hospitality team dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences and fostering a welcoming community for guests and staff alike.
