The Stage Manager role is pivotal within Old Tucson Entertainment’s production team. As a Stage Manager, you will oversee the full spectrum of entertainment production activities from rehearsals through to live show performances. This includes managing cast schedules, coordinating rehearsal logistics, ensuring operational efficiency during performances, and serving as a crucial communication link between performers and entertainment management. The position requires a high degree of organizational skill, the ability to multitask under pressure, and a strong commitment to upholding show quality and performer morale.

Working closely with the Entertainment Operations Manager and Technical Managers, the Stage Manager ensures that all production elements come together seamlessly to support timely and successful show delivery. Responsibilities include managing the setup and teardown of rehearsal spaces, tracking blocking and scene changes, running sound during rehearsals, enforcing break schedules, and maintaining the integrity and safety of performance venues. You will be accountable for supervising all cast members, including leads and show-specific leaders, while fostering a positive and professional work environment.

This position also demands proficiency with scheduling software such as Paycom and Microsoft Office, as well as familiarity with technical theater equipment including soundboards, lightboards, rigging operations, and Qlab software. The ability to adapt quickly to dynamic environments, solve challenges in real time, and communicate effectively with a large cast of approximately 50 actors is essential.

Candidates must be physically capable of handling the demands of the role, which includes lifting and moving up to 25 pounds and working outdoors in various weather conditions while standing or moving over uneven terrain. The work schedule is varied, requiring availability during evenings, weekends, holidays, and potentially overtime during peak production seasons.

Job Duties

  • Work alongside production leadership team during pre-production, operational show runs, and post-production
  • Manage show rehearsals in collaboration with contractors including show directors, music directors, choreographers, and stunt choreographers
  • Perform setup and teardown of rehearsal spaces, record blocking, reset props, run sound during rehearsals, and enforce break schedules
  • Oversee all cast and crew during performance runs, ensuring adherence to daily schedules and call times
  • Create and submit daily performance and rehearsal reports to entertainment management
  • Maintain clean and safe working conditions throughout all performance venues
  • Direct and supervise all cast members including leads, captains, and show-specific leadership
  • Ensure safe storage of props and costumes
  • Execute events within the vision of production staff
  • Organize and communicate prop and set needs to production staff
  • Call and operate shows when necessary
  • Foster a positive attitude to maintain high morale among performers
  • Collaborate with entertainment operations manager to create performer schedules at least two weeks in advance
  • Build daily task and character itineraries for performers
  • Supervise show quality to maintain show integrity
  • Serve as main point of contact for performers addressing callouts, sick and time-off requests
  • Provide feedback to performers to ensure performance integrity
  • Perform other duties as assigned
