As a Stage Manager at Old Tucson Entertainment, you will play a critical leadership role in the success of each production. This is a seasonal, non-exempt position based in Tucson, AZ, with compensation ranging from $20 to $23 per hour. The Stage Manager is a pivotal member of the Entertainment Production team, responsible for managing the overall rehearsal process, coordinating daily performances, managing cast schedules, and ensuring smooth communication between performers and entertainment management. Working closely with the Entertainment Operations Manager and Technical Manager, the Stage Manager ensures that show operations meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and professionalism. You will be entrusted with overseeing production logistics such as rehearsals, performance setups, daily reports, and safety protocols, supporting a large cast and crew to produce seamless entertainment experiences.

The role demands a proactive leader with a background in theatrical production and technical theater who excels in managing multiple shows simultaneously and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic setting. You will coordinate with directors, choreographers, music directors, and stunt coordinators to facilitate rehearsals and performances that reflect the creative vision of the production team. Your responsibilities will extend to managing props and costumes, supervising the cast including leads and captains, and maintaining venue safety and cleanliness across all performance areas.

In addition to technical and managerial duties, the Stage Manager will foster a positive work atmosphere, contributing to high morale and an enjoyable environment for performers. This role requires excellent communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to manage stress with a calm and positive demeanor. Physical ability to handle lifting and moving props is necessary, along with flexibility to work in outdoor settings on uneven terrain and in varying weather conditions. Familiarity with scheduling software such as Paycom and Microsoft Office, as well as technical tools including Qlab, soundboards, lightboards, and rigging operations are highly valued in this position.

Job Requirements

  • Prior experience in theatrical production and technical theatre
  • Familiarity with Qlab and a working knowledge of soundboard, lightboard and rigging operations
  • Enjoys a fast-paced rehearsal and tech process and can manage and coordinate multiple shows needs simultaneously
  • Work well with a cast of plus or minus 50 actors
  • Proficiency in scheduling software Paycom and Microsoft Office
  • Perform well under stress with a positive and calm demeanor
  • Possess strong communication and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and desire to solve challenges in real time
  • Physically capable of lifting and moving up to 25lbs as required by the role

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Work alongside production leadership team during pre-production, operational show runs, and post-production
  • Manage show rehearsals in collaboration with contractors such as show directors, music directors, choreographers, and stunt choreographers
  • Perform setup and teardown of rehearsal spaces, record blocking, reset props, run sound during rehearsals, and ensure appropriate breaks are adhered to
  • Oversee all cast and crew during performance runs, ensuring adherence to schedules and call times
  • Create and submit daily performance and rehearsal reports to entertainment management team
  • Maintain clean and safe working conditions throughout all performance venues
  • Supervise all cast members including leads, captains, and show-specific leadership
  • Ensure proper and safe storage of props and costumes
  • Execute events within the vision of production staff
  • Organize and communicate prop and set needs
  • Call and operate shows when necessary
  • Maintain high morale and positive attitude among performers
  • Work with entertainment operations manager to create performer schedules planned two weeks ahead
  • Build daily task and character itineraries with clear hour-by-hour expectations
  • Supervise show quality to maintain show integrity
  • Act as main point of contact for performers addressing callouts, sick, and time-off requests
  • Provide feedback notes to performers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
