Job Description

McMenamins Old St. Francis School is a celebrated part of the McMenamins family-owned company, which operates throughout Oregon and Washington. McMenamins is renowned for offering handcrafted beer, wine, cider, spirits, and coffee, combined with honest, quality pub fare. The company is unique in its blend of neighborhood pubs, historic hotels, and entertainment venues that emphasize community, art, history, music, food, drink, and fun. Its dedication to preserving historic buildings and creating welcoming spaces for socializing has made McMenamins a beloved part of the Northwest culture. Beyond providing memorable experiences at their locations, McMenamins contributes financially to local schools and non-profits and collaborates with other local businesses to foster growth and community engagement. The workplaces at McMenamins are inclusive and value Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, welcoming individuals from various backgrounds.

The Assistant-Assistant Manager (AAM) position at McMenamins Old St. Francis School is a vital role that supports pub operations under the guidance of the Pub Manager. This full-time position requires a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role involves performing many operational duties that keep the pub running smoothly and efficiently, including opening and closing tasks. The AAM is frequently the host during shifts, overseeing workflows and ensuring that both staff and customers experience seamless service. Key responsibilities also include handling seasonal outdoor work as needed and maintaining excellent customer relations at all times. The AAM is expected to perform many tasks typical of non-management roles, such as taking orders, serving food and beverages, processing payments, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of service areas. They are also responsible for staffing tasks like assigning sections to servers, regulating labor, overseeing side work, and training employees. Administrative duties assigned by the manager are also part of the job scope.

Success in the AAM role demands excellent customer service skills, a strong ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and the capability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Problem-solving skills are crucial since the AAM deals with customer and personnel issues, troubleshooting problems, and escalating significant concerns to higher management. The job is physically demanding and requires a proactive approach to managing a busy pub environment while upholding McMenamins' commitment to quality and community engagement. This position offers the chance to grow professionally within a company that values career advancement, demonstrated by staff progression from entry-level roles to management and beyond.
