Job Description
The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a prominent state agency in Oregon dedicated to fostering a safe, equitable, and thriving business environment while protecting and empowering consumers and workers. As a progressive business regulatory body, DCBS oversees essential regulatory functions including workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies, and building codes. The department champions consumer protection and education through a variety of programs, offices, and ombuds that actively assist consumers, injured workers, and businesses alike.
This position is specifically with the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA), a vital branch of DCBS tasked with ensuring safe and healthful working conditions for Oregon workers. Oregon OSHA achieves its mission by enforcing Occupational Safety and Health regulations and providing educational resources and consultations to both employers and employees. The agency is recognized for its commitment to public service and operates with a high degree of professionalism and dedication to worker safety.
The Office Operations Assistant/Receptionist (Office Specialist 2) role is an employee position offering a salary range of $3,515 to $4,738, with an additional 5% salary increase for candidates fluent in Spanish due to the bilingual requirement. This role is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), highlighting its integral place within the public sector workforce.
As the Office Operations Assistant/Receptionist, you will serve as the crucial first point of contact for Oregon OSHA's Central office. Your responsibilities include welcoming and directing visitors, responding to telephone inquiries from a diverse range of stakeholders including employers, employees, other state agencies, and the general public about Oregon OSHA's programs and services. You will provide essential clerical support to multiple sections, such as Records Management and Citation Processing, ensuring accuracy and consistency in processing employer citations.
Additionally, you will manage essential operational functions by coordinating the procurement of office supplies and materials for over 73 Central Office staff members, as well as arranging and coordinating registration for staff training events. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and proficiency in handling technical support matters are vital to succeed in this role.
The work environment is supportive, energetic, and focused on public service, offering a chance to contribute meaningfully to worker safety and regulatory compliance. The department promotes work-life balance with 11 paid holidays annually, competitive benefits, and opportunities for career advancement and professional development. However, due to the nature of the work, telework is not available for this position.
This role is ideal for professionals committed to public service who have clerical experience and are fluent in Spanish, enhancing communication accessibility within Oregon's diverse communities. The hiring process will include multiple rounds of interviews and may require additional assessments to evaluate relevant skills and capabilities. Applicants are encouraged to submit a well-prepared resume and cover letter that highlights how they meet the position qualifications and requested skills. The agency values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, welcoming candidates from all backgrounds to apply and grow their careers within DCBS.
