Job Description

High Point University (HPU) is a private liberal arts university known for its commitment to fostering a strong sense of community, personal growth, and academic excellence among its students. Located in High Point, North Carolina, HPU prides itself on providing a vibrant campus life and comprehensive student support through various departments and initiatives. The Office of Student Life at HPU plays a crucial role in enriching student experiences by offering diverse programs, services, and resources. Within this office, the Student Experience division is dedicated to creating an engaging and inclusive environment that encourages student involvement, leadership, and social interaction. This division manages key components of student life such as the campus cinema and arcade, supervises the Campus Activities Team (CAT), and designs campus-wide programming that enhances the overall student experience.

The Campus Activities Team (CAT) is seeking student employees passionate about contributing to the campus community. This role is ideal for students who want to develop leadership skills and gain hands-on experience in event planning, marketing, and customer service. As a member of CAT, you will be involved in organizing and executing numerous student programs, assisting with marketing efforts, and supporting various activities across campus. The role also includes cross-training opportunities to work within the campus cinema and arcade, providing valuable operational insights and versatile experience. The position offers a starting pay rate of $9.00 per hour and allows a flexible schedule primarily accommodating students' academic commitments. Working hours generally average 6-8 per week, with a maximum of 20 hours during the academic semester and up to 25 hours during academic breaks.

This student employment opportunity offers a unique blend of professional development and community engagement. You'll interact with students, faculty, and staff, delivering a welcoming and positive representation of HPU. Your involvement will extend to significant campus events such as Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Homecoming, and other special initiatives. Additionally, the role requires collaborative work with supervisors and team members to ensure seamless event execution and adherence to university policies. Essential skills gained include event management, digital marketing (including social media proficiency and graphic design using tools like Canva), communication, and customer service. The position also emphasizes the importance of maintaining a professional social media presence and upholding the standards set forth by the HPU Community Standards office.

Candidates will benefit from mandatory training sessions held prior to the start of the academic year, preparing them with the tools and knowledge needed for success. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and off-campus locations as required is essential. This role not only adds value to student resumes but also offers opportunities to network within the university and contribute meaningfully to campus life. Joining the Campus Activities Team means becoming part of a dynamic group committed to enhancing the social and cultural fabric of High Point University while fostering your own professional and personal growth.
